I like to think this was done intentionally to minimize its significance in the game, like how they pushed it into a far corner where you don't really notice it unless you're looking. The designers were probably unhappy that it was included as well.

Use custom starters for character selection. You can name two of your favorite mons if you do that, and even get a cute tagalong partner of your choice if you do that, whereas in Rescue Team you're all alone.

A while back I edited the species of non-starter teammates, which resulted in characters retaining their original species' names despite turning into a completely different Pokemon, which is different from when Pokemon evolve normally ingame, since they get new names after doing so. Still haven't bothered to look deeper into it, but I'd assume you should either be able to give characters names like in the past games. If not, then they probably just select from a species name bank and assign it to certain mons, which isn't as interesting.

One interesting thing to note is that the Connection Orb's Pokemon search system acts a bit funny once you rename mons. Searching Pooch has the name Poochyena show up in the list of mon species that start with that name, but clicking on it nets no results, even though the species still exists. Searching "Ray" (what I named Poochyena) got me Poochyena and Rayquaza, though. I'm guessing a similar thing occurs if you evolve Pokemon ingame normally, but I never actually did that so I can't say for sure.

Are you trying to edit the starters? Anyway, there's a faster way to do that. If you know an address in the Japanese version and its equivalent in the American or European version, take the European/American address for the Pokémon and substract the one you know in both the European/American to Japanese versions (or the reverse, depending on which one is higher), then add the result to the Japanese address. It's the way I found the American addresses without having the game, it might work. I'm not sure if that explanation was good enough though.

I haven't bothered with that because there isn't really a reason not to use FreeShop now. Anyway, finding the code for something like HP should be easier if you use an hex editor (or something like Cheat Engine) on your PC on the RAM dump files, since HP changes constantly when you're in a battle.

If I use ram editing to change my starter does the stats change as well or is it purely visual?

Purely visual, but you can RAM edit the stats into the correct ones. Don't know the variables. Your moveset will stay the same too, but once you keep leveling or unlock Hawlucha's Slam School, you'll be able to get your true moveset.

Another thing to note is that you can't learn your prevo's moves unlike unhacked mons, unless you edit the mon into their pre-evolved form and then evolve them normally. For example, custom starter Jigglypuff can't learn Sweet Kiss, but if you make her an Igglybuff then evolve her, she'll be able to learn it just fine.

Also forgot to mention that the levelup growths become that of the new mon, and the ability gets replaced with the new mon's. All that stays the same are the base stats and moveset, and stats usually get capped due to vitamins/donuts anyway, and the moveset is easy to fix.

Your stats will stay the same as whatever the old mon's stats were, but levelups from then on will have your new mon's growths. You can probably RAM edit stats to change them into what they should actually be.
Either way, your stats will likely be higher than what they should be, since many non-starter mons have worse growth rates, from what I've seen.

First time player here. What do about the Buried Relic in Blue Rescue Team? I've recruited Kyogre and have been doing regular rescue missions every day for like a week in-game now, but still no letter. Am I just being impatient and should I carry on doing missions and it'll eventually arrive?

Most of the female mons do have flirty dialogue, though, like Wobbuffet kissing you or Pikachu talking about her cheeks and tail being what people find attractive. Most of the other non-plot characters have ambiguous genders so you can just pretend they're girls if you want to.
