So I'm playing vanilla HeartGold, when I decide to make my way back to Dark Cave to get my catch, right? I thought to myself, "It's night, I have a Geodude, so I know I'm gonna catch a Zubat." Well, every encounter I got was another Geodude, up to when I used Rock Smash and got Dunsparce as my encounter. I caught her, obviously, and sent that cunt into the Box. When is the next opportunity to catch a Zubat?

I want to do something I call a nuzluck, where you can only use shinies beside your starter. Trouble is, TSKs shiny chance changer isn't working for me, there are shinies but they have a normal pallete. I want to do it with something reasonable like 1% or 2% chance, any programs I can use or romhacks that already have about that rate?

I'm in the middle of a Heartgold Nuzlocke (Cartridge so unfortunately no screencaps) and after losing two members of my team to the E4 (RIP Graveller and Shiny Crobat) and I'm having a hard time choosing what to rebuild it with. In Kanto right now, taken out a few gyms and looking to choose my new team members before I move forward. Current team is:

Cadmus- Vileplume (Chlorophyll Sunny Day Solar Beam Sweeper)

Ali- Hitmonchan (Speed boosting nature, Ice,Thunder and Mach Punch +Sky Uppercut)

Quimby- Lanturn (Tank due to high HP, Special Attack boosting nature)

Ezekiel- Espeon (Glass Cannon, Special Attack boosting nature, GOAT of the team)

I need at least one flyer to replace Crobat, useable options in the PC are
Murkrow (Super Luck, Relaxed Nature)
Pidgey (Tangled Feet, Adamant Nature)
Chatot (Tangled Feet, Lax Nature)
Doduo (Early Bird, Careful Nature)

My 6th spot is totally open, the Pokemon I'm looking at are:

Almost got bodied by Wattson. Not pictured is Combusken at 25 that barely killed Manectric. This is my shifted team. I'm using dupes clause but I've modified it so that new catches get shifted into the party right off the bat to prevent exploitation by catching shitmons early on. Also lucky that my only death so far has been a Makuhita I didn't want.

Got my first badge in my platinum run, already lost a couple of soldiers.

Both Buck the Bidoof and Roxanne the Geodude lost to a particularly vicious wild Zubat when I was unable to escape. I had just boxed my two strongest so they wouldn't get over-levelled and just didn't have the support to cover them.

Seeking a bit of clarity with a couple of things.

How do people normal handle healing and pokeballs?

I thought you went no pokemon centres and no pokemarts but this makes it pretty tough, with a bigger roster you can get some breathing space by pokemon getting healed when you switch them in the PC but this seems similar to just using the pokecentre.

Do you normal choose one of no pokecentres or poke marts?

Marlon's gym will be struck down by these three. Shadow Ball and Crunch spam from Florence and Steve respectively will certainly put in work vs the Ghost types in here, and both have great boosting moves (Nasty Plot w/ Speed Boost and Shift Gear). Setsuko probably won't have to be used, but maybe she'll come in handy vs like a Rotom or something.

I will avenge the two friends that have fallen to a very lucky Gengar by burning this place to the ground.

Yet Another Fire Red Hack. Here's the team, will beat a few trainers on route 23 and tackle Victory Road tomorrow. Feeling kinda demotivated since I lost Steve, I don't have any good replacements for him. That Misdreavus might be ok with an Eviolite as a decently bulky thing to have on the team in case I need such a thing, especially in case I end up having to face some strong Fighting types. I also have a Corphish of a decent level, but it doesn't learn any good TM or tutor moves and a Crawdaunt is too frail and slow to work consistently. I could use this Miltank in the end, but I hate Miltank. And uh, I have an Intimidate Servine of a rather high level which is nice, but I already have a good Grass type and idk if this Servine learns any useful moves either. So yeah, feels bad, especially since I have no more catches left.

Shiteater the Miltank is my HM slave, btw.

More Flying types! His team was Honchkrow, Togekiss, Dodrio, Gliscor. Had to go into Faye for Honchkrow, Fusion Bolt made for an easy OHKO, then Togekiss came in to Aura Sphere my ass so I counted my blessings and went into Helm, Shift Geared, and the rest is history.

By the way, why the fuck doesn't Gliscor learn any Ground-type attacks by level up at all? Makes no sense.

Electric types. Stunfisk, Zebstrika, Manectric, Magneton. With a Stunfisk in the lead I'd be crazy not to go into Setsuko, Quiver Dance up, and sweep.

So far, so good. I feel like Fire- and Fighting types will be my biggest issue, so I hope the remaining two elites don't carry those.

Another one down. This one rocked Normal types: Lickilicky, Ambipom, Kangaskhan, Staraptor. The Staraptor was legitimately terrifying, for it learns Final Gambit at level 57. Didn't use that, however, so I could OHKO it with Helm, no problem.

Grimsley was the scariest, he had Dragon types. Zweilous, Altaria, Haxorus, Flygon. Had to pull a trick on the Flygon, which did quite a lot even to Yorgos, by going for X-Scissor, healing up, Shell Smashing, and then X-Scissoring for the kill in order to prevent him from hitting me on a lowered Defense stat (and to avoid triggering his Sitrus Berry). The rest went pretty much fine.

See, my wild encounters are randomized, so I never even had to consider dupes or no dupes because I never had the same first encounter twice.

Plus, if you get nearly wiped or something, it's not like you just get to replace your mons with brand new ones that are as good. They're probably shittier, lower leveled (so requires grinding), etc.

She had 3 Steelix, one of which was her ace. The fucker's sash got broken thanks to her Hippo's Snow Warning lmao. She also had an Excadrill and a Seismitoad, of which Excadrill was the only one who could tank an attack (but then it promptly died to Hail anyway). Yeah uh, nice try.

Got a little overconfident with my team, it did so well, so I didn't bother to heal up before the trainer fights in frost cavern: whole team, lvl 40+ weakened by Sawk and finished up by Mienfoo in the Frost Cavern. I could play it smarter, but I kind of lost it and started mashing buttons when my beloved Burb got killed by a Rock Slide (fucking Throh and Sawk, always frighten me, already got fucked over once in this run by Throh carrying Earthquake in Reflection Cave), those Fighting types seem to carry. Well, got bored anyway, this team seemed to do a little too well anyway, let's see what I can accomplish with this rag-tag troup of shitmons.

Get the universal randomizer, open your rom in it, then apply the settings you want. Click save and it will prompt you to title your save file, so do like "emeraldrandomized" or whatever you want. It makes a new file wherever you direct it. viola.

Well it's time for an update; so I captured two more pokemons, Pahnit the Ponyta and Morty the Shuckle. I also ended up evolving both Tarvic and Krol.

I also took place in some tournament in a trainer school where I faced off against my rival and some girl named Nora—who I guess will act as a sub rival of some kind?—and after winning the tournament I reviced the TM27 Return.

Things were going great until May arrived on the scene, her team put up one hell of a fight taking out Ninetales in the process, fortunately Ninetales final attack burned Duoblade and gave us the win.
Pikachu and Dedene's Volt Switching put down half of Winona's team. Gliscor went down to Masquerain's surf, Zapdos to Pikachu's Stone Edge, and Bisharp took care of M-Altaria.

Went through Clay Tunnel and Twist Mountain, where two of my mons met their unfortunate ends. As you can see, I'm now using the badge corner for 8 strong trainers to take out as some sort of alternative to gym leaders, if you will. Right now I'm gonna defeat the Shadow Triad, can be tough considering it's a triple trainer gauntlet. After that, I'll defeat my rival who should be in Undella Town I believe, team up w/ Cheren in Pinwheel Forest, then take on Striaton Restaurant.

Joshua was in the lead, easily took Zoroark down, then I switched into Faye vs Skuntank only to see him use Memento, so that thing died and I went into Florence as Cacturne failed to do any significant damage. Easy.
>Exeggutor, Exeggutor, Alakazam
Triple battles are scary, especially when you forget a battle is going to be a triple battle, and ESPECIALLY when you have these killers in front of you. Had to bank on Helm's existence and Rock Slide flinches on the two Exeggutor, because nothing appreciates taking a Leaf Storm coming off that Special Attack stat. The Alakazam did an insane amount to Toshiro, the freshest team member, but luckily resorted to Future Sight afterwards (none of which got the chance to hit before the battle was over).
>Houndoom, Weavile, Sharpedo
Rotation battle, and Joshua in the lead meant that the fucker could rotate as he pleased, but everything dropped to Close Combat regardless.

Turns out Norman is a Facade spamming faggot, and made me look like an even bigger one after he sent Slaking as his second pokemon and made me use the 5 hyperpotions I had on me, to keep Atlas alive.
After I ran out of pots I had to swap someone to take a hit and Diddy sadly bit the dust (it became useless after I defeated Watson but still, RIP). After that the fucker actually stopped using Facade and went with Faint Attack instead, giving me a chance to take out Slaking. After that I kicked his Vigoroth's ass and spread mine for his second Slaking, only it was a Linoone, guess my memory will just keep failing me on this playthrough.

At least I can get a Barboach now, I guess.

Nobody recommended anything, so I ended up going with Shroomish since it covers my team's weakness to ground and dark, plus it has spore.

I just had to battle a level 50 steel type Groudon. Even though it was a high level, it wasn't difficult because most of its stats seemed low. After being burned it did almost no damage.

Quick platinum run update.

Lost a couple more soldiers but Nurse the Chansey has been a revelation, looking like a potential MVP.

Not sure where softboiled sits for other people but is 100% fine in my run.

Got my fourth badge, but it wasn't without it's casualties.

I lost my Chansey to horn drill from a Goldeen while training for the gym.

I then lost Bruiser the Floatzel who had become a real bro and Bron the Bronzor to Lucario.

Was so close to losing my Noctowl who has probably overtaken my starter as team captain. That would have been horrific.

A moment of respect for our fallen comrades and then onwards and upwards.

Update time: So I captured myself a new team-mate, Sumotori the Makuhita. And I spent some time grinding the majority of my team to lvl 25, Alas Tarvic fell in battle against a ace trainers Kecleon.(fucking crits)

I also beat the first gym thanks so Pahnit and Krol. And a lot of super potions.

well, if I collect two more Green Shards I can try and see if he can teach Seed Flare to any of my mons, but just wait and see how the only ones who can learn it will be decidedly physical attackers

It's weird though, the tutors very often seem to have moves that are incompatible with the mons who get STAB on them, even though I checked the box in the randomizer that should give mons a 90% chance to learn a move of their own type. Guess that thing doesn't apply to tutor moves, then?

picked Cilan as my teammate vs Cress and Chili and the fucker used slow ass Ice types vs them, while one of them rocked Fighting types with Close Combat. Basically, he was useless and had to die. Florence saved the day by using Nasty Plot and combatting the Fighting- and Grass types on the opposing side, and she also ripped Cilan's head off because he deserved to die for doing absolutely nothing productive (the one time his Beartic got to move it used Hail for some reason, meanwhile both of his Glaceon just instantly dropped to a Gallade's Close Combat)

Next up on my hitlist is Colress, but we won't be seeing him for a while since I have a lot of places left to go through before reaching him.

So Primal Kyogre didn't quite go as planned.

After the loss of my poor Magnezone, I decided to go hunting for a Chinchou. Well, Lanturn already has pretty poor Special Attack, so the fact that the Chinchou I caught is Adamant is not encouraging.

I've decided to double up on the Fighting types as well and add Perseus the Meditite to the team. I plan on farming a couple of Heart Scales to teach it Thunder Punch and Fire Punch.

Next stop is Wallace, then Victory Road, then endgame. I'm basically out of encounters, sans a few water routes, so what you see is what I get.

Geez a lot of shit happened this time:

Using the dupe clause rule, I was blessed with Kat from R.3. After some grinding I entered Mt.Moon and got Dudebro, unfortunately Buzzzy was killed by a Zubat's crit.

Moved to R.4 where I got Naught and worked my way to Bill's place. Kat killed herself via confusion from the Rocket Grunt's Golbat, Kit is now very sad. Gained Big Mouth and Tulip from R.24-25, afterwards there was more grinding.

This is a blind run, so I was surprised by all of Misty's ice types. Tulip sacrificed herself so a low hp Lopp could quick attack Misty's Lapras and win the match.

First time I've played gen IV in years, underestimated his levels and the trouble my Torterra would have with Gyarados.

First crack in Nuzlocke and it has been fun, found a couple of new bros in Noctowl and Floatzel.

Going to give Gen V a try, hoping that it might help me appreciate a gen that I have never enjoyed in the past. Might find a couple of mons from there that I had overlooked in the past.
