In most cases, you can look at a pokemon and guess it's type. Then there are these guys.

Rock types have it tough design wise
I mean everyone assumes that a Fire type can breath fire or that or that a Dragon type can dragon
but every single Rock type (except Archen and Archeops) is always made of rock.
Dark/Fighting?! What?
(Still a bro-mon)
this one tripped me up when i first saw it
also malamar
>>28674492
I don't know. Maybe? But when I look at Mr Mime psychic nor fairy aren't the first things that come up to my mind.
Another example would be like Girafarig. Not bashing Girafarig's design as I kind of like it, but still Girafarig doesn't rub off on me as a psychic type. Hell alot of psychic types kind of struggle with that imo.
>>28674581
>tripped
>Malamar
>>28674565
Cradily and Aurorus don't look particularly rocky either, but they're kind of expected since their part of the fossil meme.
As many people have already said though, I'm just surprised that darkdoge isn't at least Dark/Rock. When I think pure rock, I usually think of Gigalith or something that is made of... Pure rock.
>make a Grass-type
>call it a Rock-type
Why is this allowed?

Still, grass rock is a pretty nice typing.

Flying? Ok, it's got webbing and shit. It's off the ground. But it's also ground...type...? Okay... even though it looks more like dark, or maybe even bug...

MASUDAAAAAAAAA!!!
>>28674756
I don't disagree.
I guess because it's new? Growlithe got in there early and help set the precedent for what a fire type is.
We just haven't had a fluffly rock type before. Everything else has been considerably more rocky. The cloest thing to Rockruff is Terrakion?

>>28674739
Am I the only person who never questioned why Lugia wasn't Water-Type?
It's mostly because of the movie, I assumed only Psychic-Types and Meowth could speak to people so my child brain concluded that Lugia must be Psychic and just happens to live in the ocean.
>>28674739
>>28674742
The explanation is logical: Lugia is clearly a water, psychic, and flying type. But the devs had to make it only two types. So they went with Psychic, which is fairly important for its characterization, and Flying.
elgyem looks like a steel type, and beheeyem a rock or ground

>Xerneas brings Life with Magic
>not making sense as a Fairy Type
>>28675086
>zekrom
>least looks like an electric type
It literally has a generator turbine for a tail and it is dark like the clouds in a really bad thunder storm. I get it's not nearly as blatant as having lightning bolt patterns all over it, but it's a hell of a lot more obvious than say chinchou or tynamo.
Ok so I get Lugia isn't water because it just lives in the sea but
Why psychic?
>>28674739
Lugia is a telepathy with wings that are unspeakably powerful. Those are it's defining characteristics.
Types are determined by the properties of that Pokemon. It just happens to prefer spending time underwater.
>>28675441
It's not about making sense via backstory, anon. It's about the fact that you don't look at a giant deer and say "Oh look a fairy"

Nigga, Xerneas was revealed months before the Fairy Typing was

>>28675783
Except petrified trees are actually a thing. Sudowoodo's type's misunderstoods are so intentional that there's an entire episode in the anime just about that.
Altaria is one of my favorite dragon types, but for me, it definitely is the highest ranking on "WTF is that a dragon type?" List.
I think we've learned by now that, in pokemon, anything with a lot of power can be a dragon, but it's just a bird. Like, all the other flying/normal types.

Rock Pokemon don't have to be made of rock, they simply represent aspects of rock.
Mawile is a good example. She's not made of steel, but her jaws are as strong as steel, and so she gets the typing.
Pokemon types aren't like elemental clay that each Pokemon is made from. They're given a type based on their aspects.

Most common explanation is that pearls are found in the ocean.
Diamonds are harder than steel.

In mathematical physics, a closed timelike curve (CTC) is a world line in a Lorentzian manifold, of a material particle in spacetime that is "closed", returning to its starting point. This possibility was discovered by Kurt Gödel in 1949,[1] who discovered a solution to the equations of general relativity (GR) allowing CTCs known as the Gödel metric; and since then other GR solutions containing CTCs have been found, such as the Tipler cylinder and traversable wormholes. If CTCs exist, their existence would seem to imply at least the theoretical possibility of time travel backwards in time, raising the spectre of the grandfather paradox, although the Novikov self-consistency principle seems to show that such paradoxes could be avoided.
The Novikov self-consistency principle is itself insane. Physics doesn't care what makes sense to you.

I'll preface by saying I know nothing of physics.
But I've always thought it was weird and stupid to base all understanding of physics on mathematics. How do they actually know that all physics in fact follows the rules they made? I mean, you don't always have to see something to believe it. For example, I've never sen the earth's core, but it makes perfect sense to say it's made of liquid metal according to the way metals and minerals react under heat and pressure etc.
But how can anyone say with confidence how the inside of a black hole works? It's all just based on theoretical mathematics, how do they actually know it works the way they believe?
I've always felt like so much science is just based on assumptions supported by other assumptions. Sure, we can assume it works this way, but chances are when we actually encounter something that was previously theoretical it'll behave completely differently to how we assume.

>But I've always thought it was weird and stupid to base all understanding of physics on mathematics.
Physics IS math, or at least it can be accurately predicted and calculated using math. There's a saying that mathmatics is the language of God. NASA used equations put down on paper by nerds decades before to launch people to the moon alive. Some equations have been used for centuries. The models mathmaticians' and physicists' (I'm not going to say "we" because what the fuck do I know) use might not be the "reality". Aliens might have models that are different but just as accurate (although it's very possible they would use the same ones). But as long as that rocket launches into space everytime and the satellites stay in orbit—the math is accurate enough to base our understanding of physics on it.
You're right that the models aren't accurate. NOBODY says with confidence what happens inside a black hole. Nobody knows But people put forward theories, and that's how humanity advances.Solutions like closed timelike curves either reveal amazing possibilities or blank spots that need to be checked. Either way people learn.

I wasn't really referring to more basic physics like aerodynamics.
I mean the deepweb shit like string theory. Stuff that sounds like a big joke. All the shit that physicists don't even all agree on.

>When I saw Reshiram and Zekrom for the first time, I definitely wouldn't have assumed they were fire and electric type
That's fair enough.

You're a grade-A autist.

>>28677175
I think this and issues like beedrill and gyarados's smaller movepools would be if there was somehow to have eggmoves that arent usable until evolution. Move relearners can relearn moves it was born with now, so maybe have the message when a trapinch/weedle/magikarp hatches with egg moves that only the evolutions can learn "It seems to be unable to use an inherited move so it forgot it. Try to have it remember once it has evolved" and then the eggmove is added into that mon's move relearner list with a flag that only can get it after evolving
>>28674565
To be fair, I never looked at the Larvitar line and thought "Oh shit it's a stone Godzilla" either.
>>28674480
It creates psychic barriers with its hands.
>>28674771
It's a scorpion. Scorpions live in the desert. Desert = sand. Sand = ground-type
>>28678881
That's what it does, not what it looks like.
Lycanroc uses jagged rocks to attack which justifies it's typing. Mr. Mime's makes sense after you know what it does, but its design doesn't intrinsically communicate "psychic" as much as, say, Kadabra does. I can easily see someone mistaking it for a Normal type.
And that's not necessarily bashing Mime's design, I don't think every pokemon has to 100% reflect the type they are. Furthermore, Psychic is a hard type to convey visually.
I don't even want to imagine the autistic arguments that would happen if Phanpy got introduced today.
>>28674811
Archen and Archeops are pretty fluffy, 2bh, even if it is feathering
>>28679180
They have the potential fossil excuse though.
You don't need to look like the type to utilize the type. Litten doesn't look like it's made of fire.
>>28675086
So basically anything that isn't red isn't Fire, if it's not purple it's not poison, etc? Fuck off.
>>28674427
What's the deal with so many 'mons being normal type in this generation, anyway? Is it going to be the equivalent of Gen I's Poison type?
Also
WHO THE FUCK PUTS DRAGON ON A MOTHERFUCKING PALM TREE.
YES, I'M STILL GOD DAMNED MAD!
WHY NOT GYARADOS OR EVEN ONIX FOR ALL I CARE?
GOD FUCKING DAMN!
>>28677034
To expand on this, the nidos learn a huge variety of elemental attacks, the same way normal types do. Why a ground/poison gets access to stuff like ice beam, thunderbolt and fire blast is bewildering.
>>28679486
Probably because all the poison moves in gen 1 sucked.
>>28674684
Because he's a shitty Machamp. Seriously, Machamp just has to break the pillars, and conkeldurr has trouble standing/moving. On the other hand, if Machamp's belt/pants come off, it gains godlike power.
>>28679689
Ghost, Poison, Bug all sucked off the top of my head. Dragon got the worst of it since Dragon Rage only does 40 hp regardless of the stats involved.
>>28679303
dragon palms are really tall palm trees
Are fakemon allowed?
Anyway they look like Fire/Dark, Water/Fairy and Grass/Flying but are Fire/Fighting, pure Water and pure Grass type.

Quite a few. I hope it evolves though, that one fucked up eye pisses me off and triggers my autism. I mean, I'd be fine if it was just one Crabrawler, like one in the anime that belonged to a boxer or something, but no, making a reference to real boxers is completely worth saying "lol the entire species has damaged right eyes". That's fucking stupid, and I don't need a Fighting type badly enough to put up with that shit.
>>28680426
They realised they fucked up kyogre's power level, even for legendaries, and had to release something to 4x resist it.
>>28675195

>>28675086
I like it, but definetly got some flaws. THe dark type is about tricks and illusions, not a evil/edgy design. In your "most" category there, only Zoroark fits. Nuzleaf, with the bandit mask to hide its identity, is very much a good dark design.

I think they're moving toward "flower" meaning fairy, so they can have the nature vibes. Grass types would have other plant parts like leaves and such. I expect Mega Meganium and Mega Bellossom and a few others to be part Fairy for this reason

when it comes to goomy it actually makes sense that in a region full of fairies "the weakest dragon pokemon" would want to appear to be poison to avoid being preyed upon.
