Maybe they'll actually have enough double battles showing up naturally in-game to make having Pokemon with doubles-specific abilities worth using.

Would be awesome if they gave you the choice, or have at least a couple of those isles where the rule is 2 vs 2 only.
I remember in Pokémon Colosseum how you had to fight 2 v 2 throughout the entire game, while it was new for me, I quickly felt like there was something missing.
If they vary carefully between the different combat styles, it'll make the overall experience more enjoyable.

This makes sense.

Like half of Alola's pokemon have abilities or moves that only really work in doubles.

Hopefully the way they can make this game a bit more difficult or at least use your brain a bit more is to have single battles at the start then switch to only double battles during the half mark of the games story

no triple battles though that's just a shit fest and only fun once a year

Could have easily become bug/ghost. Or a different mushroom that's bioluminescent infected it and it became bug/electric. Or it could have been infected by something entirely else. Use your imagination.
