Why Trainer AI can't switch Pokemons?

Some trainers use Full Restore and X Speed/Attack

Why is the extent of the AI's "strategy" to use full restore if they notice their health reaches red? Why is it impossible for GF to design a true hard mode instead of fabricating difficulty by cheating in maison and other shit?

The only time I've ever seem trainers switch out pokemon was platinum. It happened 3 times.

I remember a lot of u-turn or volt switch pokemon changes, but very few beyond that.

Every trainer will do that if they have a pokemon whose moves won't work.
Like a pokemon who has only normal and fighting moves against a Ghost or most pokemon versus Shedinja

I just replayed Blue for VC and one of the dudes in Koga's gym switched out his Kadabra on me. It caught me off guard because I didn't remember anyone switching in the original games.

They always switch out on me when I use Perish Song

How to make trainers feel more genuine:

At least in Sun/Moon trainers will be using different types of pokeballs now. Still a long way to go.

They'll also do it when they have an ability like Water Absorb. Can't remember if they switch after seeing the water type move or a water type pokemon.

From my experience, the AI will only switch out if their current Pokemon has no way of dealing damage to yours, and one of their others can.

I would like a mercy option, or an option to escort them to a pokemon center, or be able to fake a loss to boost their spirits. That would be nice. An option to challenge them with certain rules too? like 3 vs 3 if they don't have as many pokemon as you.

There will probably be more switch-ins in SM because of Pokemon like Gumshoos having abilities based on switching

They improved the AI in X/Y. I had a few instances of trainers switching out mons, mainly if they had a Flash Fire/Sap Sipper in the back and they have seen a move of the same type already, or if they are locked into a move and you bring a pokemon immune to it.

I wish they took it farther though, if you have a Fire type mon out, and they have grass out and water in the back, they should by all means switch out.

I don't want god tier AI. Just switch pokemons when they are in red or detect my mons weakness. When the entire team just spam the same powerful attack it gets pretty boring

Some trainers in Koga's gym in gen 1 actually switch out their mons.

The AI actually got dumber in XY, it was smarter in gen 4. It gen VI it doesn't know how half the abilities work (try Storm Drain Gastrodon vs a water type without a grass move), doesn't switch as often and doesn't calculate damage properly either.
