Why Trainer AI can't switch Pokemons?

But they can. And not just the Maison trainers too.
>>
Or use healing/support system.
Some trainers use Full Restore and X Speed/Attack
>>
it can't but only under special condition, like if it already knows you used a water type move before, if it has a pokemon with Water Absorb there's a chance it will switch into it
>>
>>28639399
*it can
>>
>>28639388
still horrendously rare
>>
Why is the extent of the AI's "strategy" to use full restore if they notice their health reaches red? Why is it impossible for GF to design a true hard mode instead of fabricating difficulty by cheating in maison and other shit?
>>
>>28639438
They're poor, incompetent developers.
>>
Barry and the Maison trainers are the only AI I can recall switching pokemon.
>>
>>28639355
I remember Caitlin of the Elite 4 would switch if your pokemon was a dark type. You could abuse it with Zoroark's Illusion though.
>>
>>28639477
I remember some random swimmer switching out against my Shedinja in ORAS
>>
>>28639463
Fuck off, if you actually played XY and fought the Ace Trainers when you weren't overleveled you would know that they can make good AI and sets

they just don't want to make the game difficult
>>
reminder to report bait threads
>>
The only time I've ever seem trainers switch out pokemon was platinum. It happened 3 times.
>>
I remember a lot of u-turn or volt switch pokemon changes, but very few beyond that.
>>
>>28639589
Every trainer will do that if they have a pokemon whose moves won't work.
Like a pokemon who has only normal and fighting moves against a Ghost or most pokemon versus Shedinja
>>
I just replayed Blue for VC and one of the dudes in Koga's gym switched out his Kadabra on me. It caught me off guard because I didn't remember anyone switching in the original games.
>>
They always switch out on me when I use Perish Song
>>
>>28639618
>bait threads
how's this bait, OP asked a simple question
>>
How to make trainers feel more genuine:

>trainers nickname their pokemon sometimes
>trainers switch out regularly
>sometimes when you encounter a trainer, their pokemon will have some health missing or have a status effect

At least in Sun/Moon trainers will be using different types of pokeballs now. Still a long way to go.
>>
>>28639355
But they can.
>Y is the only time one my mons had a Grass move
>the only times i use it Shauna and Diantha switch to their Sap Sipper Goodra

>encounter a trainer
>"g-go easy on me...please..."
>all his pokemon are fainted except for one pokemon with half its health missing
>>
>>28639668
They'll also do it when they have an ability like Water Absorb. Can't remember if they switch after seeing the water type move or a water type pokemon.
>>
From my experience, the AI will only switch out if their current Pokemon has no way of dealing damage to yours, and one of their others can.

>>28639477
I had some random faggot in the Battle Chateau swap out on me before. I believe they switched out a Nidoqueen, but don't remember what switched in.
>>
>>28639848
>>28639784
I would like a mercy option, or an option to escort them to a pokemon center, or be able to fake a loss to boost their spirits. That would be nice. An option to challenge them with certain rules too? like 3 vs 3 if they don't have as many pokemon as you.
>>
There will probably be more switch-ins in SM because of Pokemon like Gumshoos having abilities based on switching
>>
>>28639355
They improved the AI in X/Y. I had a few instances of trainers switching out mons, mainly if they had a Flash Fire/Sap Sipper in the back and they have seen a move of the same type already, or if they are locked into a move and you bring a pokemon immune to it.

I wish they took it farther though, if you have a Fire type mon out, and they have grass out and water in the back, they should by all means switch out.
>>
>>28639613
Tell that to the gym leaders. Or like any non normal diantha boss
>>
>>28639907
>3 vs 3 if they don't have as many pokemon as you.
This would be really cool as well.
>>
>Metagame consist in intense switching
I don't want god tier AI. Just switch pokemons when they are in red or detect my mons weakness. When the entire team just spam the same powerful attack it gets pretty boring
>>
Some trainers in Koga's gym in gen 1 actually switch out their mons.
>>
>not playing difficulty hacks
>>
>>28639924
>They improved the AI in X/Y
The AI actually got dumber in XY, it was smarter in gen 4. It gen VI it doesn't know how half the abilities work (try Storm Drain Gastrodon vs a water type without a grass move), doesn't switch as often and doesn't calculate damage properly either.

>Turn Pokemon into Undertale
Nah senpai, and besides, 90% of players would still choose to fight for that sweet, sweet cash and experience.

>thinking they know shit about how to make AI fight smarter

>>28641109
I haven't played that game, but it would be nice to have a few opportunities like it. They do it in the anime all the time. But yeah, the anime is completely different.
>>
>>28639784
HOLY SHIT THIS
>>
>>28639463
Nah, try Maison out, GF can be sadistic bastards if they want to.

The real answer here is >>28639369
>>
>>28639613
Don't defend XY around me you little underage.
>>
>>28639355
It will switch instantly if it can't hit through your Wonderguard.
