Why does gen 4 seem to have the best cries? It's like gamefreak realized they had much more to work with with the DS sound system but they haven't put in nearly as much effort since. Post best cries, pic related.

Gen IV and V have the best cries indeed, the cross-gen evos from IV in particular.
Whatever the fuck they did in Gen VI that murdered literally every single cry is a crime.

gen VI has the best new cries. They actually sound like barks and roars and shit instead of *dial up static*.

Old cries in gen VI got some weird shit going on, tho.

I think they tried to remaster the gen1/2 cries to combine their original sounds with animal sounds but it's pretty terrible 99% of the time.

I've also noticed that Sinnoh's Pokemon seem to have the best cries. Most of my favorite cries are Sinnoh mons, here's another good one:
