Why do so many Pokemon protags have absent fathers?
Makes it easier to mix races if they need to down the line. 6th gen trainer customization for example. If the mother and father was white then it would be really odd to have a son that was a different race.
Good question desu. Was the gen III protagonist the only one with a known father?

Adoption?

It'd be just as easy to customize the skin colors of the parents as a side-effect of the customization of the trainer.

Yes. It's why we didn't get customization in ORAS. Although maybe I'm giving them too much credit since they probably could have separated the skin tone from the outfits interface if they tried.

>There once were people who married Pokémon.
They're just being traditional, anon.
Its probably to pay homage to satoshi creator of pokemon because his father left him and his mother after finding out he was autistic. Its kinda sad actually

Are you arguing it's just as easy to program something, than not program it at all?
Pokemon trainers are exciting and enticing individuals for small town girls, it's like a gangster or a soldier at shore leave. Even failure trainers have an exciting story or two to get the panties moist, and after they have planted the seed they run off to continue their adventures. Norman either had a conscience and didn't dump his soon to be pregnant girl, or was already a pro trainer when he knocked his wife up thus stuck around.
It's because fathers are distant in Japan (geographically). Men work 80-hour weeks over there. They don't have much time to be home. Your dad is at work, bankrolling your adventures.
Anime director said it's because almost all male trainers want to become elite trainers, but fail and due to shame and bankruptcy never return. Ash's family is literally this.

>Satoshi based Pokemon on his childhood; not only on his hobby of catching bugs and training them to fight other bugs
>but also on his father leaving him and his mother
Fuck, man

Funny, considering the point of Alder's character was saying this whole notion is stupid.Actually I think a lot of Gen V was about discreditation of what the anime tried to establish.

>to this date, R/S/E/OR/AS are the only games where your father is present
yet another good thing about those games

That's not true, and if it was, his dad left him really late. He tried to get him a job when he was a senior in high school
