If you use Showdown and use the same password for anything else, I'd recommend taking precautions to make sure the hacker (or anyone they leak the information to) is unable to gain access to your account.

Stop requesting sticky, you pieces of shit. No one gives a fuck about this and it is not dangerous. The accounts are not linked to your email or any other network so the """"hackers"""" should not have access to any of those. They only know your username and password. And then what? Nothing.
>>
>>28603992
I hope/think my email and username are good. I probably used an unimportant email, and my username is irrelevant.
>>
>>28604144
Some people use the same username/password combinations across sites.
>>

If you use the same password and username combo as you do for other things it can still have an impact, which was the point of me making this.

Let's say you use the username, I don't know, SuperSleepySnorlax1983 and used the password buttfuckers1 on showdown. On somewebsite.com, you also used the SuperSleepySnorlax1983/buttfuckers1 combination. Can you see where I'm going with this?
>>
>>28604329
That's not a very good assumption to make. Many people do it for the sake of convenience and ease of memorization. While it's not at all a secure method, it's the easiest to remember, so it's what many people do.

>>
>>28604397
I think what he/she's trying to get at is that they can go to popular sites and test the username/pw combination. For this example, let's use Reddit. Person A uses "pokenub138" and "pass381938403" as his username/pw for both things. If that's tested, they gain access to his account.

It's really not a huge deal, but I thought I should let people know in case they used the same username/password combination for popular sites, as I would definitely want to be alerted of something like this.
>>

Let this thread be a lesson that it's very stupid to make multiple accounts under the same name using the same password. If you're going to use the same screen name on different sites, use very different passwords that can't be guessed. It sucks memorizing everything but your safety is what matters.

Thankfully I picked a PS combo that has nothing to do with any of my other UNs or passwords but I'll still take precautions now anyways.
>>
>>28604645
I would change your PW just to be safe, but it's very unlikely. Showdown doesn't use your email anyways, so you're very likely safe.
>>
>>28604561
I downloaded the program and only backed up my teams before reinstalling Windows. Username information isn't stored in those and I haven't touched the program since. Now I feel like a retard.

I managed to find a link to an old, old replay but I don't know how helpful that is currently.
>>
>>28604645

Showdown likely doesn't have your email. It's not something you give them. He just has your username and password. And your IP address.

Generally it's pretty useless without the email.
>>
>>28604397
>Google the username
>Find the website you're interested in using
>Brute force your way into their account

It's actually surprisingly easy to find other people online if they're very open about what sites they visit. That's why if you're an attention whore like me or you have the same username everywhere you have to change them all up.

Thankfully for me I don't have the same username there as in other websites nor do I play very often (and when I do I'm as polite as possible).
>>

Relax, there's a fuckton of people that play Showdown, so I highly doubt you were one of the users that pissed off the hacker. Ergo you're not probably in his hitlist.

Still, if you want to have all your passwords be different you could do like I do and have a Notepad file on your computer that has all the different passwords you use and for which site you use them.

DISPOSABLE EMAILS
bitmessage.ch/roundcube/ -- good because you can send email and shit with it and the account is always around. You can also set aliases to make your email address something like [email protected] instead of [email protected]
eyepaste.com/ --- good because it doesn't get filtered by most sites, it works and it won't retardedly delete the disposable email address you use
auti.st -- only useful for quick stuff.

Seriously, according to the hacker's twitter, he has over 4 million accounts. The only reason something bad will happen is if you've done something bad enough for them to single you out from the other 4 million, or you're just really REALLY unlucky and they randomly picked your account out of a hat.

Nobody gives a single fuck about you, and that is definitely a good thing.

Dude has the ability to hack fucking NASA. He has the power to get his country to be free (whatever that means, I don't know what's going on in Western Sahara) and his people to be heard, at least a little bit.

But oh no, he has to waste it on hacking a Pokemon site because he's too much of a petty cunt that he lets his anti-Americanism blind him.

Fuck that guy. If I had his skills I'd be too busy exposing corrupt politicians or constantly fucking with ISIS some shit.

That moment when you don't know if you ever used pokemon showdown.. anyway to search user names?

Topkek, this guy is a script kiddy who exploits small problems with websites and blows his "achievements" out of proportion.

Notice that while he hacked some subdomains of NASA, he didn't even touch the main one.

If Zarel didn't code like shit, this guy wouldn't have taken PS either.

Fuck, I see. What a shame. So this little bitch is not even that good, eh?

Sometimes I wonder if unwarranted self-importance and meaningless hacking attempts always go hand in hand. Everytime I read about some fan site or gaming network getting taken down the responsible party is gloating as if they just found Obama's bank account details.
>>
>>28604542
You just change the password to your e-mail dumbass, that way they can't figure out your bank login information from your e-mails, and they can't use the password they know to attempt to login. Jesus christ just change your passwords you spaz.

That's not true. You can't use rainbow tables with salted passwords. And they're using bcrypt which is much stronger than md5/sha1.

Oh i didnt know they used bcrypt, that would make it harder. As for the ranbow table, if he knew the public salt and was REALLY crazy he could generate a table using a preexting one and put the hash in it just for this attack.

That's not how rainbow tables work. Generating a rainbow table for one salted password is the same as trying to brute force the password by trying every single possible combination of letters.

The only thing you can feasibly do with this is brute force each hash with a list of the most commonly used passwords (password, 123456, etc)
>>
People should be talking about this. How is this not a sticky yet? Mods?

Meanwhile, my Pokemon GL account is just fine. Battle Spot wins again, baby.
>>
>>28611405
Yea, your right that it would take the same amount of time. Correct me if im wrong, but if he already had the salt, couldnt he make a table before all this started? He finds a backdoor, gets enough passwords to fugure out the salt, leaves. He then makes a table with the salt. He then gets the rest of the passwords through whatever backdoor he found to start with, shuts down showdown, and conducts the attack offline by matching hashed passwords in the table?

And yea, this would be A LOT of trouble for not much reward, and i doubt he did it looking at his twitter.
>>
>>28610950
just for memorizations sake. All of my passwords have the same 4 numbers then something pertaining to the site i'm logging in to

Hello.
Thanks for the idea of googling your usernames, I will look for a script to automate the login process.
A lot of accounts had names related to this website, I'm quite surprised that you have a thread about me.
>>
>>28604866
if you are from third world how are you using the internet
>>
>>28614014
Obviously fake, not enough shitty spelling and nonsensical phrasing.
>>
>>28614091
If you look at his Twitter it's pretty legible, not sure why he typed like that on the site.
Plus the Kebab only really cares about the bratty smogon fags, I bet he has more of a hitlist based on who was the most fucking obnoxious
>>
>>28614014
Oh pls he got attention from NASA he would probably not be surprised some irrelevant Pokémon community is talking about what he did to one of their most used sites relating to Pokémon
Also at least fucking try when you pretend to be someone
>>
>>28604707

PSA: your accounts aren't going to get hacked. Pokemon Showdown doesn't have your email addresses, and all passwords are bcrypted, i.e. even if the database is hacked, the passwords are still unintelligible.
>>
>>28614354
PSA: Your accounts can still get hacked if the site doesn't care where you log in from. Searching a username can bring up a lot of results. And this guy seems to at least think he has the passwords to 4m users. While the chances are slim, it's still possible.

No, because there is a different salt for every password.

showdown accounts aren't linked to emails, so if your username is different from elsewhere it's no problem
>>
>>28603992

>>
>>28614568
Because Showdown's back up
>>
>>28614460
This guy's bluffing. He has 4 million encrypted passwords, encrypted being the operative word. That said, it's probably a good idea to change all of your passwords if you have an account with a username similar to the Showdown one.
>>
>>28614490
Ah, gotcha
>>
>>28614634
Right, it's almost guaranteed that you're safe, but if your account has shared/similar usernames you should change the password. I only mentioned this as the Smogon twitter recommended changing passwords.
