Blue has a few altered tilesets to Red/Green, so stuff like houses, grass, trees, fences, paths, and signs look different. Same with Yellow.

Likewise for Crystal vs Gold/Silver, Emerald vs Ruby/Sapphire, and Platinum vs Diamond/Pearl. And of course FireRed/LeafGreen and HeartGold/SoulSilver have their own unique graphics compared to the rest of their generation.

Maybe it's because my first game as a child was Dune 2000 I always found gen 3 to be my favorite in terms of sprites. Not over the top, no really soft like gen 4, but gets the idea across.

Gen IV had the best sprites. Gen V's moving sprites look awkward, and Gen VI's models look boring and lifeless in most cases. Just compare them to Battle Revolution's models, or, hell, even the Stadium models and you can see how animated they are compared to Gen VI.

Sun and Moon look beautiful.

But Gold/Silver/Crystal have always been my favorite visually. I love the simplicity of the gameboy sprites and the earthy pallete of Johto. I didn't like HGSS's color scheme as much.

Anyone in their right mind saying gen V has to be legally retarded. For every good choice they made on the graphic front they went back 10 steps, e.g. the godawful tweening. The games just look fucking awful in movement.

Gen 5 was definitely not the best overall, but I still have a soft spot for the graphics since there were a few areas and sprites that I thought were really good.

I feel like there were also a lot of songs and battle themes. I think overall other gens were better there too but some of my favorite battle themes are from Gen 5.

I played Gen 2 after Gen 5 and it's my favorite. Aesthetically it feels fucking fantastic. Great chiptune music. Beautiful use of the GBC's pallete. The region itself is really aesthetically pleasing too.

Style wise: Gen V. The menus and presentation of information in-game was really cool and stylish.

Atmosphere: Platinum. The snow, the music, sound effects, and overall mood really came through in its presentation. Despite the slow speed I think Platinum felt very complete and like a true adventure in a Pokemon world. The journey up Mt. Coronet to encounter the legendaries exemplifies this. Love it.
