The short gist of it, because going overly into detail seems pointless at this point:

I've followed this fucking kid for nearly 20 years now. I love him to bits, and I'm happy I get to continue seeing his adventures instead of them wrapping him up, rebooting the show, and saying that's it for him.
But the way they're doing it, the way they're making such a seemingly radical change in how they want to portray him to the audience just makes the divide between "Satoshi the fictional character" and "Satoshi the marketable mascot" so annoyingly clear.
Sun & Moon probably isn't even going to be that different at the end of the day, this particular leak just really made me think about how they COULD have had him won the league and built off that for some interesting stories, they COULD have given him an actual girlfriend and built off that for some interesting stories, but the way they wanted to change the direction up again a bit for Sun & Moon seemingly just made it easier for the to go the usual "loses the league, parts with his companions and goes to the next region" end as always.
Sun & Moon doesn't look bad, it looks comfy and the new girls look fun, it's just the way they're seemingly going about it that makes it feel more artificial than before.
Something about it makes me sad, and I can't even properly understand why myself.

I didn't even get this feeling from BW. There was obviously a lot of executive meddling there too, but it felt a lot smoother and believable. Sun & Moon so far has really just felt like marketers said "okay, so we've come to the conclusion that people like shows that are like THIS, so let's make the show like that" without giving many thoughts to how the show currently is and what's going on in it.

There's an unfortunate truth that you've neglected here.

"Satoshi the fictional character" doesn't exist outside of "Satoshi the Marketable mascot".

The Pokemon Anime has always been just another method of advertising and marketing the Pokemon brand. That's it, and that's all it ever has been, and likely all it ever will be. Satoshi doesn't exist to TPCi as a character - he's literally just a marketing tool.

He can't get season to season character development, we can't have series long plot lines outside of the two franchise taglines ("catch em all" or "wanna be the very best"), we can have characters other than the mascots be integral from series to series, because the show is about marketing to the target audience - and the current target audience is the 5-12 range. If they start adding in lasting effects, characters, or changes, it won't encourage the younger audience to research the old ones - it'll only turn them away from the show because it'll seem like there's too much going on to get involved and start watching. It may encourage the older generation to watch, but let's be honest here; Pokemon makes its most money from kids in the 5-12 group begging their parents for the games, going to watch the movies, and Pokemon merchandise. An influx of an older audience would be nice, but they don't stay for more than a series - and as a collective they don't spend nearly as much on merchandise as the you get group does (via whining to their parents).

Sure, things like Digimon and Medabots had series long plot threads and interesting characters with lasting character development - and unfortunately, they don't have a multi-billion solar franchise to show for it.

However, I think the freedom the writers are given really plays a part in the end. I'd say XY is better received than BW because there was more freedom for the writers to actually do cool stuff and less executive meddling.

Those franchise had pretty much crashed and burnt out a while ago and with the new digimon anime, it goes to show what happens when you try to continue with a continuity for a new generation of fans. It just doesn't work. Newcomers will be turned off by the stuff that requires in-depth knowledge of the lore while old-time fans are wondering why are they retreading old grounds and people acting so retarded. I thought the Flare arc viewed as an action arc was really good. But with the knowledge that Ash had just lost the league and Serena was leaving, I thought it was really strange that neither of them really shone throughout the arc. The only character that I thought really stood out was Eureka.

I also can't really figure out why they pushed Serena's crush so much only to never do anything with it. Ash could literally get married to a girl and it wouldn't change anything about the series.

Ash and Pikachu are the second face of the franchise, and have to be the focus - recognizable brand marketing.
Ash isn't allowed to develop romantic feelings primarily because it would take his focus off of Pokemon, which is what the series is about.
Ash can't win a league because the kids watching the shows have to understand that even if they don't beat the league, it's not the end - they can always try again, or buy the new game and try there.
Support characters and other Pokemon can't move on purely to allow Ash to introduce new characters in the next game's region.

Most of these were invoked about halfway through the Johto series - which is when TPCi clamped down on everything (also happened very shortly after Puzzle League N64 released).

The writers are a little fucked if they want to do long involved plotlines, because they aren't allowed to. Character development either gets erased or the character gets put on a bus at the end of the series. So they can put time and effort into making a fantastic series that won't continue on past 2-3 seasons that will get the best ratings and will sell tons of merchandise, or they can put in minimal effort for 2-3 seasons, get ok-good ratings, and still sell tons of merchandise.

I don't blame them for taking the easy way out.

So I had an idea about the Farewell, AshGreninja episode.

What if the final form of AshGreninja is in exchange for Ash losing the ability to use Synchro with Greninja like the shared senses, pain, and vision, Greninja takes on the AshGreninja form permanently.

This leads to Ash releasing AshGreninja so that it can stay behind in Kalos to continue watching over the region since danger still is out there and because Puni-chan has gone into slumber?
