I don't think that's correct at all. Flora and Fauna wise, you're talking about an entire continent compared to one small part of Europe, and environmentally Australia has multiple biomes beyond desert and coast.

Australia is a continent. It's not one little country like France, it's a continent and it has a very large variety of ecosystems: rainforests, deserts, snowy alpine areas, temperate forests, wetlands, savannah, etc etc.

Anyway it will never happen. Japs are obsessed with USA and France and that's why they got used as a design basis. Also, there are already kangaroo and koala designs. Alola is the nearest thing there will ever be to an AU region.

Two ideas for Australian pokemon. A grass/fire type based on a eucalyptus tree. It would learn explode, of course, since eucalyptus trees sometimes do explode during bushfires.

Make it fighting type. Give Kangaskhan a more pronounced snout, thinner frame and longer feet as well as a different gait. The lore behind the change is "Kangaskahn outside of Terrastrala got fat because they didn't need to leap away from predators".

Also as long as we're talking not-Australia, the Tasmanian Tiger needs to be one of the fossils for the region.
