I don't give a shit about the anime, but I was under the impression that movies and the shorts accompanying them are generally considered non-canon, especially if there's no reasonable way to fit them in between episodes or they don't reference the events of the films during the rest of the series.

Is it possible then that only the first movie is canon, and each one after is not? It would be an odd choice to make just one of them canon, but if that's the only one that has any noticeable impact on the series itself it would make sense.

Meh. I like BW more the XY. The fillers are the only good thing about the show. Cilan's an enjoyable character and Iris is anti-waifu-bait because she's not white/asian-looking. Serena's the most bland possible character and the only thing about her people discuss is her waifu status.
