From a technical standpoint, some Alola forms might be catchable in other regions, i.e. if a Vulpix can evolve to live in an ice climate in Alola, no reason they couldn't do it in another region. So they could sprinkle in Alola forms every other generation, bolstering them with some new regional variants, and encouraging people to use a previous gen to get the different forms. It's similar to how if you want a Fire Vulpix in Alola, you need a game from a previous gen to transfer one over. So long as the forms are available one generation from one another, it should be fine.

If the Vulpix that live in the mountains were originally Vulpix from Alola, then calling them Alola forms is fine. They adapted to survive Alola's snow but they can live in other snowy areas. They're still Alolan-native forms that way.

In other words, a simple "Oh, there's Vulpix from Alola in the mountains!" justifies it.

Its only called the Alola Form because that's how it is in Alola. If say, Vulpix is also snowy in Sinnoh, it is also a Sinnoh form.

What about alolan pokémon? Since the climate there apparently causes pokemon to change forms, will we see the opposite with non-alolan forms of doggo?

Why would they need to be available at all now that we have Pokemon Bank?

It's only in the most recent gens you get this really weird period in the post game where previous gen pokemon are just thrown at you left right and center, especially as far as legendaries go.

This is so people don't have to play 10 games to catch them all. It is a good thing. Makes it easier for people to get into the series, makes it easier for long-term fans to not have to go back and catch a specific mon to transfer it forward because they "missed" it.

I'm more interested to see what the breeding mechanics of Alolan forms. Will they have different egg moves? If Alolan Vulpix is the Father and regular is the Mother, what will the offspring be? If regular vulpix, then can you go vice versa to get alolan Form eggs?

For most pokemon with alternate forms, it's the mother's form that determines things. Vivillion is the only pokemon with multiple, permanent forms that aren't inheritable from the mother, it's based on where it hatched. Even Burmy and Deerling, whose forms can be changed, still inherit their mother's forms.

It'd be odd if the Alolan forms followed Vivillion's example and based the pokemon's form on where the egg hatched.

Safari zones or in-game gifts would be my guess. Somebody will give you a snow vulpix egg, or you'll find alola sandshrew in the safari zone.

Then throw in one random 'tropical island' zone to give Alola alternate evos a place to work, like Alolan exeggcutor. Similar to how they have to include magnetic designated areas for Magnezone and Probopass.

That's all they really need.

How confusing would this be?

I would rather they made them in game trades/safari zone exclusive and focused on new variants for each region (not a lot though maybe about 10-30 per region) alongside new Pokemon.
