It's kind of scary how quickly people jumped to defending this. I know Ashnime fans don't have taste in general, but this is excessively bad.

Best Wishes had a promising start actually.

People were getting sick of Team Rocket being in every episode even when they contributed nothing to it and were too easily dealt with. The more competent Team Rocket were a refreshing change of pace at first and it was good to see them finally get new uniforms. Then the event they were building up to never happened, they went back to their old uniforms and they just got boring.

Brock had overstayed his welcome and didn't contribute much to the DP cast. Brock leaving meant two new companions instead of one. Then Cilan and Iris' subplots were abandoned and it was like having two Sinnoh Brocks.

Ash was finally catching more than 5 new Pokémon again, there was a chance for the Pokémon League to have multiple 6 on 6 matches with Ash using a different team in each one while still sticking to his Unova Pokémon. Then the league ignored that potential and had Ash loose his only 6 on 6 match to a trainer who didn't even have 6 Pokémon on him.
