Anyways, to rephrase myself right, I feel like Ash's story got old long time ago. The character, the main premise of show, the way it's done etc etc. And by looking around me in this thread, and in some other places I am not alone in such approach. The show might not had been in it's youngest years, but it was fresher than now. With years going on the series got more and more stale, more and more predictable, and as now, even oddest approaches bring not much new.

The tale of Kantonese kid seems to have had burnt off long time ago, but nobody in power dares to challenge it. Growing list of feats he had done make it harder to believe in his wrong decisions and insufficiency. All legends he met, all his accomplishments, all his titles and heroic deeds go unheard in global village of Pokeworld. Neverending roster of friends and foes leaves bitter taste of loss and regret.

Shortly after the audition, Ichiki received word that he had been chosen and was asked to come to an event as a secret guest. By a mile. XY had better ideas typically, but its characters constantly fell flat, Serena's arc was odd in how it both dragged on and felt rushed at varying points and she didn't really have the importance or overall impact of Dawn. Clemont was just one gag rather than a character and really got old fast aside the rare ep focusing on him. Bonnie was good.

Brock in DP WAS shit, but he was more out of focus in DP than Clemont was during XY, so it got in the way less.

Additionally, Ash actually showed development gradually over the course of DP, whereas they basically shoved it into the first gym and the last gym exclusively in XY and the sheer difference in rival quality needs no explanation.

XY has a more gripping climax vs the evil team than any of the series though and visually its important battles are stunning, although the lessened amount of Tomioka written battles is depressingly felt, as the instances where he does write them (Olympia's fight) are on par with DP's better stuff, but overall never reaches the high of Ash/Paul. Of course, nothing does.

I'm cautiouslty optimistic. Besides BW Ash's grown's been positive. BW was a failed experiment to bring back the OS spirit and some of its issues were fixed in XY. Though I think the writers fucked up with the league I also think they can fix their mistakes and deliver decent episodes during most the season, until mandatory status quo rape of course. And funny how some people went from claiming this season sucked for Ash losing to cocksucking his XY incarnation. Congratulations, you have become little girls.
