She was literally transported to dimension of Great Old Ones, fought for a bunch of what she thought were a bunch of normal digimon, then, when she won, they changed form into no-fucking-idea-what shadowy creatures and tried to drag her into the ocean to make her their queen that would lead them against their "master". She gets freaked out, after a few warning shots shadows say they were mistaken and leave, and then she comes back to human world.

And then there is a shadow of a fucking Cthulhu/Dagon digimon in the background.

And then the subplot is dropped never to be mentioned again.

That was one of my least favourite things about 02. I wish they would have stuck with it.

Would have been nice if instead of shipfag wish fulfillment Tri we got a dark reboot that focused on the first three seasons with all the kids as adults and revisited old plot lines like that one.

I actually wanted a series set in the world we know is coming in the epilogue. Where Digimon are common knowledge and everyone has one.

There's good and bad to this, everyone has their own talking companion but the bad side is obvious. Imagine Al Qaeda with a Tyrannomon and yes 9/11 happened in the world of Adventures.

With all the fascinating potential of a world suddenly coinciding with powerful digital monsters as 'pets' they abandon that in favor of a retcon where suddenly almost no-one remembers the Digimon.

Alternatively, the theory is Digimon died off because it did the exact opposite of Pokemon which is that they kept changing the canons and trying new things. I'm not just talking adding new mechanics like held items and ability, I'm talking resets every new series to the point you suspect every anime is set in it's own universe. The main issue this caused is that many fans of the original anime were turned off by the subsequent changes in the next few series (Tamers became very dark and traumatic, Frontier tried to turn the show into Super Sentai).

I love that animation and that animation style so much. But it's generally seen as bad or low budget.
