CAN YOU PLAY AS THE GIRL NOW?

I hope it gets good enought when DQVIII comes out, I'm replaying it on PCSX2 with all maxed and it looks glorious. Citra can do that shit too to get 1080p graphics and whatever.

But I don't have too much hopes on it since it can't even run properly ORAS. I'll play it anyways on my l33t haxed N3DS.

I think you should be able to decrypt the romfs and swap the model of May with Brendan to avoid crashes but as far as I can tell gdmk's just merging stuff from the pull requests and as the pull requests don't refer to anything to do with Pokemon crashes (apart from horde battling) I don't think it's resolved yet.

Have you seen the romhacks where people 'play' as characters like Maxie? From what I understand you can swap any character model by decrypting the rom and renaming the files or even editing them and then remaking the rom file. Then playing the game as per normal. But a May model on the Brendan character would probably result in all kinds of shit like everyone calling you he and shit but it should avoid all the weird female crashes I think.

Anyone knows a fix for the Petalburg woods black screen?
I know this doesn't happen in RR/SS but I want to play without all the hacked shit.
I've tried changing the language to Korean, it works, but the black screen comes back if I return to english after getting out of the woods.

The black screen only applies to Rustboro and Petalburg so leave it in Korean until you get out of Rustboro.

but as far as I know it's usually 'the game works to SOME extent' and not it's not really a matter of work vs don't work, but more of which functions are working and which aren't.

No one is really testing anything except me (OP) some people pop in now and again to say they have been playing something like Mystery Dungeon for example but they never really came back to post if it broke halfway through or whether it works all the way to completion (I don't play PMD).

XY werks just fine if you use someone else's save file however the instant your pokemon levels up or you obtain an item it crashes. You also can't get past the mirror selection screen at the start of the game. wwyele (one of the devs) says that they don't know what causes the crash.

As for games other than Pokemon I don't really know.

In regards to the ROMs:
Petalburg and Rustboro ALWAYS black screen on the clean roms unless you change the language to something like Korean but they work just fine on the hackroms. Also ORAS is shit easy so some people just like the hackroms which is why they're here.

Anyway, you can download whatever version of ORAS you want. (But in this case, I just downloaded one of the hack rom, one of the normal rom for both Ruby and sapphire).

The hackroms are pretty fucking hard though. Just a warning.

Legit Build: All Wild Pokémon are 100% legit for trade and will not appear as "hacked" by any legitimacy testers. Post-game foreign Pokémon are unlocked from the start, and rarities and Hordes are adjusted.
Leveled Build: Wild Pokémon are the same as in the Legit Build, but are leveled up to keep pace with RR/SS's harsh level curve. A quick adjustment in PKHeX (editing Met Level) will make them 100% legit.
679 Build: Wild Pokémon are altered so that every non-Legendary non-Starter species is available, at the same level as the Leveled Build. Legendary encounters are not changed in this or any Build.

The hacks just work without any weird tweaking on petaburg and rustboro, no one knows why. It's probably because the hackers changed the location of the bugs or some shit like that. Other than that, they work the same as vanilla.

You can also probably strike off Magma/Aqua Quintuplet and hoard battles and Route 110 crash off the problem list if today's build works like the devs say it does.

I want a hack rom that lets me go through Petalburg woods without any bullshit but keeps the Pokemon encounters and trainer rosters intact.
Rutile Ruby and Star Sapphire are not Nuzlocke viable, so fuck them.

You can pick any.
However, any trainers after the petalburg woods and inside Rustboro MUST be fought using the harder hackrom (this might not apply inside buildings (the only trainers that this really encompasses is the hard Roxanne gym and several level 100 pokemon in the Delta episode), I haven't checked) otherwise you could not download the hackroms at all and just change the language of your game using pkhex to something like Korean in the vanilla game.
