I'm trying to decide between using Alolan Raichu or Vikavolt

Vikavolt maybe. It's early to get and it could be the Scolipede of this gen (it's speculated to have SpAtk higher then Manectric's).

Alolan Raichu's ability seems a bit too situational to be useful in single player. Go for Vikavolt.

Depends on stats and when they're available in-game. Even early game Bug types have been solid for the last few gens, so I'm expecting to take Vika through to the end, but if it somehow ends up shit (and I mean SHIT, because I happily used Qwilfish through my first Gold run) I'll switch off to Alolachu.

Some have calculated and it's possible Vikavolt could have SpAtk higher then Manectric's (which is 105). So yeah if any indication, it will be good.

It will have different stats and learnset though, so it will be functionally a new experience.
