Fucking scald users are the worst. What ever happend to using

Pretty much everybody uses Scald because it's better. The slight power decrease is worth it for the burn chance.

If you don't like it, consider using a pokemon with Water Absorb?

There are no viable pokemon with water absorb except for volcanion but its a legendary so it doesnt count. I dont like using legendaries anyways.

If your problem with it is in competitive, I recommend you using a mon with water absorb, dry skin or storm drain. Gastrodon and Cradily come to mind.

The difference in power is of just 10 points, and surf has no secondary effect while scald will be burning 30% of the time.

This is like when people use dark pulse in zoroark instead of night daze. The second is stronger, but not enough to justify the lesser accuracy, and gives the illusion away.

just use a lum berry on a stall safeguard like quagsire, it's bretty good.

Or heal bell set up, it's not that hard to negate/remove burn or other status effects.

I thought burn status was supposed to be your pokemon actually covered in flames

Scald shouldn't hit for super effective damage on fire types since it's boiling water, coming into contact with something hotter should evaporate it.

It should be super effective against ice types though, kind of like Freeze-Dry.

Scald don't need any change. It's mostly used by defensive pokemon anyway which fixes you're power problem.
Sweeper will all go for surf or hydro pump.

I look at it this way:
You can lose 15% of the time because fire blast missed...
or lose 100% of the tiem because you miss out of a bunch of 1 and 2 hit KO's with Flamethrower. 30 Base Power makes a big difference.

Lets see...surf has 90 base power, hits your partners in double and triple battles, and has no secondary effect.

Scald has a really good base power of 80, 100% accurate to boot, burns the opponent 30% of the time...yeah, you wonder why people run scald? Because its strong and reliable. It makes sense that it burns more often than most fire type moves too: you're more likely to get scarred by boiling water than you are an actual flame.
