Up until Toei starts to have serious quality issues, in addition to catching up to the manga so they pad out episodes with useless shit.

You're fine watching it until around episode 300,thats when padding becomes noticeable if you've read the manga but not awful. After the early 400's-ish the quality starts to noticeably drop. If you do go through with it, I'm generous and say you should drop it for the manga after Amazon Lily, a lot of people would say to drop it sooner. Also look up which arcs are filler because there are a few.

One Piece is a generic shonen with a pirate theme. There's absolutely nothing special about it. If you want a generic shonen experience and like pirates then go for it. It's entirely unremarkable in every sense of the word.

So we're clear here and I don't get called out as someone shitting on something they haven't read, I read several hundred chapters up until end of the CP9 arc. Gave the manga a sporting chance so if it magically becomes the best thing ever written after the several hundred chapter mark then fuck the author for his shitty pacing.

Rarely you can tell what's going on, but then again either way the action is fucking garbage, and the story offers no real mysteries or anything to think about, just some dumb fucking asshole trying to be da best pirate evar with his group of friends. This, just make sure you're watching the 1999 version and the two ovas of HXH before going on to 2011, otherwise some shit won't make sense since the people directing 2011 fucked up basic and major points of the story near the beginning. Plus 2011 is weaker in every way possible, but it's got all the most recent arcs in animated format so it's all we have, really.

Before the time skip it used to be enjoyable. Nowadays it's just another long running shonen like many others. Doesn't have much to offer to the reader and the art is far too busy, which aggravates in the scanlations.
