Exactly! Dragons are supposed be the rarest and arguably strongest types in the game. But now they're overrepresented and Pokémon that are not even remotely related to dragons are just "LUL XD slap a dragon typing on that bitch pham tbqh muh nigga, it's ya boi! ;)" it's starting to get fucking stupid.
>>
>>28411146
Well, it's not like Water doesn't have a reason to be common. Though imo bugs should be more common as well.
>>
>>28411085

...Are you seriously using human characters as an argument that Game Freak doesn't hate Ice types?
>>
>>28411069
STAB Ice Shard is still pretty scary my nigga, and some pairings (Mamoswine's Ground typing for instance) help counteract Ice's shitty defensiveness.
Although I agree with you, Ice needs more resistances. I say give it Water, Fairy and Dragon resistances.
>>
>fire, grass and water are always starters
>half as many fire as water

no wonder people pick fire as their starter, so easy to get a grass or water type to add to your team anyway before long
but adding more fire types? not so easy sometimes

Gyms and E4 played an important role at the franchise for 20 years. Do you really think it is ignorable? Types arent made just of number of Pokémon. Look at fire type, has a medium number of Pokémon, but with a few evolutionary families because starters and legendaries actually dominate it. Quality is better than quantity

I honesty wouldn't be surprised if Alolan Nidoking/Queen turn out to be a thing and aren't part Poison. Seriously, Kanto is the equivalent of a sewage dumpsters with all the pollution going on and of course many pokemon had to become part Poison to adapt to survive. But now in Alola, in a pollution frre environment, they could evolve into something else, Alolan Nidoking/Queen could be Ground/Fighting and Alolan Weezing could be pure Fire with Levitate.
>>
>>28411567
I'd expect Alola Weezing to be a water-type, so fire it is.

Bug is a great STAB and synergies well with many secondary typings. Bug / Steel is likely the best type combo in the game.

I have no clue what you're talking about.
>>
>>28412016
wat
>>
>>28412104
The best type combo is fairy/steel.
>>
>>28412104

>I have no clue what you're talking about.

Bug is resisted by seven types and has weaknesses to fairly common attacking types, namely Flying, Rock, and Fire. It is one of the weaker attacking types. However, its key resistances to Fighting and Ground make it marginally better defensively.

Ice-type is an extraordinary attacking type, but absolute dogshit defensively, and many combinations you can make with Ice only wind up compounding its existing weaknesses.
>>
>>28412297
The amount of types doesn't matter. Only the types themselves. Bug is SE to Dark and Psychic, making it very good already. Your only other options there are Dark, which resists dark, Ghost, which is resisted by Dark, Fighting, which is resisted by Psychic. To cover both of those common secondary typings already makes it a great STAB. Grass is just a bonus.

Bug is resisted by Poison (lol), Ghost (lol), Steel which resists everything anyway. Fighting and Flying are the only ones that matter.

Bug is definitely one of the better types. The problem is most bugs are irredemable stat-wise. That's why when you give a Bug type good stats they automatically become a top tier threat, as seen with Scizor, Forretress, Genosect, Volcarona, Mega Pinsir / Scizor, Scolipede, and even ones like Ninjask back in the day.

Name me one good ice type. Just one. Fucking Froslass? White Kyrem which is only usable thanks to a 700 BST?

>>
>>28413891
Is this a meme I'm not aware of? Avalugg is not even usable in the lowest tier available (PU).

By far my largest qualm is Water over Normal. By definition, Normal is "Average" or "The most common denominator".
I get that water is one of the most abundant things on Earth, and is also likely true in Pokearth, but still.

Psychic is too common. For being a mysterious mental force, unexplained by science, you can't turn over a rock without finding one. Actually, there are more of them than there are rocks to turn over, which is its own problem.

Everything beneath Dragon also deserves scrutiny. I can understand Steel, Fairy, and Ghost as mysterious creatures of myth that are similarly rare, though I'd argue that Ghosts should probably be more common than Dragons, but Ice being where it is is utter BS, especially given its thematic proximity to Water.

I believe part of this is due to a lack of arbitrary Ice types, however. Gen 1 and 2 had them, but ever since Ice types have always been literal chunks of ice. There are only so many ways to draw eyes on chunks of ice. Coming up with more pokemon that are only allegedly Ice type, like the Sneasel line, or like Lucario is for steel would go a long way to both fill out the numbers, and also escape the defensive ice-type meme.
Rock also suffers from this, and could really use more in-name-only Pokemon.
>>
>>28414190
Psychic covers a lot of things including hypnosis and being weird. Plus it is common type for legendary Pokémon.
>>
>>28414190
Psychic is my favourite type and I am really disturbed by the fact it is so common. I feel like it should one of rarer types like Ghost and Dragon. Definitely not more numerous than fuckign Bug.

>>28414321
This is true. Psychic is basically "weird powers: the type". I feel like you can split Psychic into two or even three different types and it would make sense.

Fairy resistance could make sense I guess. People really do go stupid trying to give fairy resistances though. Most don't even make sense.

Nice!
Also, here's gen 7:
Bruxish: Water/Psychic
Solgaleo: Steel/Cosmic
Lunala: Ghost/Cosmic
>>
>>28426053
Water creatures are PRETTY diverse. Plus you do gotta remember most crustaceans are water type with no mention of bug. Water encompasses a lot.
>>
>>28426458
I mean if they're going to retcon legendaries/mythicals into fairies like... Celebi is right there.

Psychic is still used as the cosmic type though. IE. Solgaleo and Lunala.
>>
>>28410658
Too many fairy pokemon.
>>
>>28426657
>>28426571
Also Type:Null could be Normal/Magic.
>>
>>28426576
ghost resisting fairy would make sense... sort of, and also help the type a bit. i mean, fire resisting fairy makes no sense.

ice needs its rock weakness removed. its steel weakness doesn't even make sense but the steel weakness isn't its biggest problem, rock is. aside from stealth rock, rock is just an easy type to cover against; nearly any pokemon with arms or a gemstone on its body can learn a decent rock-type move. and some pokemon can just learn ancientpower for no reason.

ice should RESIST rock if anything; consider how many rock formations were carved by glaciers.
>>
>>28426679
you could argue that every mythical pokemon should be part fairy - mew, celebi, shaymin, jirachi, victini, they'd all fit the type. they shouldn't, though; fairy is already well represented
>>
>>28426546
Get rid of its retarded ass weakness to flying. If water doesn't get a flying weakness grass doesn't deserve one. Fairy resistance makes sense, fairies draw power from nature. Dragon resisting it doesn't make that much sense either but I'm unsure about removing that.
>>
>>28426546
grass is honestly not that bad; as a type it's mediocre but it has some great mons. its flying weakness does make no sense though.
>>
>>28411013
Gen 6 had 71 pokémon
>>
>>28410658
I somehow thought there would be a lot less psychic types and a lot more fairy types for example.

Fire resisting fairies kind of makes sense if you think of them as nature beings. I'm somewhat on board with ice for the same reason. Ghosts don't make that much sense actually because fairies have some control over them mythologically speaking. What COULD make sense is a psychic resistance. Psychics are smart, skeptical, and fairies being fantasy creatures and weakened by disbelief being resisted by them could make a lot of sense. I think psychic needs it more than ghost does.

Ice should be SE against Rock desu I agree that's never made sense to me.

>Normal and Poison types: the gen
You forgot the water types.
>>
>>28426753
I wait i think it's actually 75 lol
>>
>>28426774
i dunno, it all gets a bit nebulous because of differing world mythologies regarding fairies.
>>
>>28426823
Yeah true. I do get a bit weirded out when people say they arbitrarily add ghost, fairy, or dragon type to things. Balance wise that might be correct but mythologically speaking you could fit at least a third of all mythological creatures in those three categories.
>>
>>28426823
"Fairies" comes from celtic folklore. Different mythologies can have similar creatures, but they are not fairies. Stop being so eurocentric.

"fairy" is a generic term. they're not called fairies in any celtic language (agus tá gaeilge agam, siad ar a dtugtar "sióga"). there are dozens of mythical creatures across europe that are all called "fairies" or an equivalent word.
the type is also literally called "fairy" in japanese.
>>
>>28426869
>"Fairies" comes from celtic folklore
Source: your ass. Even the most narrow definition of fairy still encompasses many different ideas from all across Europe. They may not all share the same name but just as with dragons the similarities are obvious and similar concepts of essentially the same thing span cultures. Don't be obtuse.

I just want some more hulking Electric Pokemon like Electivire. Gets boring when the entire type is riddled with mice and miscellaneous designs strangled by the theme of being super fast. If GF wants to continue making defensive Ice types, they may as well make some in other nontraditional types.

Never forget that Dragon and Ghost both only got one addition back in II, a whopping 1% of the new Pokemon for each of them.

Ice and Dragon should trade places.

Zard is worse than Blastoise, and Venusaur is number 1.
Feraligatr is way above Typhlosion.
Blaziken is the worst looking final evo of any starter.
You are right on Infernape, but Empoleon is still better looking than all the the gen 1-3 fire starter.
Samurott still looked better than Emboar.
