I'm hoping that we get some more "traditional" music for Sun and Moon. I feel like the Pokemon soundtrack tries too hard in many cases to create unique songs with unique feelings, and many times, those attempts fail. (I'm probably rambling and making no sense at this point.) Castelia City in BW made me turn off my volume -- I understand that they were going for an interesting, jazzy theme, but it just feel flat and seemed dissonant to me.

Personally, I'd love a soundtrack similar to some of the more orchestral Super Mario Galaxy pieces. A semi-mellow (but exciting when the need arises), classical-style soundtrack would be amazing in my opinion.

I was going to post the Eterna Forest theme in my next post, it's one of my favorites. Gen 4 had such a lovely soundtrack.

I'm not sure what I want in particular -- what we've seen before seems to have a lot of personality and atmosphere that fits the region well, for the most part. I hope we get some quiet songs here and there, too.

You want melodies instead of complex sound walls, right, anon? Older games had less to work with, so they replied on inventive arrangement to catch the listener's ear. And the breadth that newer games can accomplish with sound design isn't bad at all, but sometimes it makes you miss the simple and quietly impressive things.

Yeah, that's a good summary. Don't get me wrong, I love the usage of the chromatic scale in the battle themes -- at this point it's become a staple of the soundtrack. I just feel like there are many cases where the background music seems to be cramming as many notes into one measure as possible.

Why was Sinnoh's music so comfy?

I can't wait for fall. Autumn is the most comfy season.

IMO, winter's great for the first month or so, when the snow is a pristine white and everything is new, but I feel like after a while, winter becomes somewhat drab. The snow becomes dirty, the trees are all bare.

I live in Canada, so for me the snow just piles up and up and I love the rush of frozen air the first breath to take outside. And putting on some mitts, scarves or hat that's been on the heater. One of my favourite parts is when it's near the end and you can see all the new life poking through. Or when there's a random warm day and all the snow and ice melts so there's little rivers everywhere, only to get a snowstorm the next day. I don't know, I just love it.

It's not even because I'm from Canada. A lot of people I know really hate the winter here.

It really depends on where you live. I live in a rural area right now so winter is a lot more cold than in somewhere like Toronto (basically Canada's version of NYC). I imagine Toronto's winter being extremely close to NYC's. But again, it depends on where you live in Toronto. Where I lived, the winter wasn't horrible. I never had the subway stop working or the buses get backed up and it wasn't really that cold or dirty.

Though I imagine that if we had a bad snowstorm and the subway was knocked out I would be fucked and hate it a lot more.

I'd like to work on drawing landscapes so I think this would be a good place to practice.

As for stories, I'm reminded of when I used to explore the expanded areas of my neighborhood. They were filled with concrete, and they made strange shapes on the ground, it felt like craters or a dry desert we were exploring. We also peeked around the frames of houses to be built and tried to explore the basement of one. It was filled with water and it was kind of perilous because we could have fallen and gotten stuck. Again this is before cellphones or the internet.
We rode our bikes around the neighborhood and always enjoyed exploring that place, until it was closed off and we couldn't go anymore and they finished building the neighborhood areas.

I just remember it was hot out and the sun was blinding but we had fun anyways because we pretended we were in another world. I get that feeling back when I play Pokemon. I want to get that feeling back from exploring new areas, or just by driving down a road I've be never been before.

You're right though -- there is nothing better than that feeling of discovery. I used to go exploring with my sister through the woods that ran near our neighborhood. We would "christen" the various areas that we would explore to and draw up maps. I'd do anything to get that feeling again.

It was pretty fun, especially because there was a bike path they were also working on and that was also under construction so we explored that too.

I always look for something exciting when I drive. We're so used to going to work or home or out with friends or to see family that we never really deviate from our routes. I always look at roads I've never taken and wonder what's out there.
Part of me knows it's nothing magical but the other part needs to explore and see what lies beyond the horizon.

Your story is whimsical. I love childhood imaginative games. I really hope kids today haven't lost them.

Oh man, I used to do that with a (different) friend growing up.

Behind this shopping center nearish to my home (that was mostly dollar stores and other discount places,) next to a flat mini-desert of developed-but-unused land (you could get up onto the cliffside if you walked carefully, too!), there was a forest that stretched back unobstructed for a fair few miles. We used to go in there and just... make-believe, I guess. Kid worldbuilding, and of course we were looking for Pokemon while we had our little picnics and explored. Honestly it was pretty dangerous to just let us wander around alone like that for hours without cellphones or anything (bears, people,) but it seemed harmless at the time.

But crawling over huge, slippery, mossy fallen tree trunks to get over a rushing mountain creek, up the mountains and down the mountains, through hollows and briers and into fern-filled glades, and following animal trails through the dense thickets here and there, all the while just MAYBE hoping we'd see a Stantler or something -- it was one of the most magical and peaceful times of my life. I miss it, too.

I miss when I could believe in the fantastical, and when things were peaceful enough to let me explore. The world seems a lot darker now than it did back then, in so many ways.

I am so grateful for these threads. I really, really am. Thank you all for coming here, for whatever it is that draws you here. It's things like this that keep me a Pokemon fan more than anything else, honestly.

I've been practicing drawing nearly every day for a while now, and I'm seeing improvements slowly but surely. When I get good enough I would like to create something similar to that, possibly Pokemon themed, but just high production, hours of work, hard ornate binding and just a very mysterious seeming art book.

Seeing the different ways light shines through the trees, the fallen leaves or twigs, colour pallets, they always have unique aesthetics compared to caves, the inherent comfiness of nature, Pokemon forests are just fantastic. I should really improve that image.

To be fair, coming by during leak season is completely understandable. These threads and /heg/ are always interesting, and sometimes there's good to be had.

Honestly I completely forget about this place until a new region is announced. I mostly come here for the leaks, theory and hype threads. But these comfy threads may be my new home. Or at least when I'm feeling down or need something to calm my nerves.

I also really like the "What if Pokemon was real?" and headcanon/trainer threads.

I can be lax about dropping by outside of pre-release season honestly, but during the lead-up to a new gen I keep /vp/ as a pinned tab. But comfy threads will always have a place in my heart, and they're something that keep me coming back even in the lulls between releases.

I love the headcanon/what-if threads too, and the occasional "Pokemon is now real" impromptu RP threads are honestly fun, at least, even if they can be silly. Lore threads are good when they don't devolve into petty bickering, as well.

I'm extremely overworked but other than that, life is nice, I guess. I'm working on fixing my sleep schedule which has been fucked up for a while, so hopefully that'll work out soon.

Other than that, I'm just excited for some nice fall weather. Summer weather is oppressive.

Good luck getting back to a regular sleeping pattern, anon, I know how much of a hassle it can be. The leaves are already starting to change here, and the wooly bear caterpillars are everywhere (along with stinging tussock-family caterpillars.) It's not officially fall yet, but it might as well be. I'm looking forward to October.

Yeah, fixing your sleep schedule is a pain. I eventually fixed mine by downing melatonin at the same time everynight and keeping my phone out of arm's reach.

Fall's a good season, though. We get some really good fall leaves and apple picking where I'm at, so I'm looking forward it. Beats the summer humidity, that's for sure.

It's one of my favorite seasons, and it has one of my favorite holidays. It also used to hold my anime convention, but I haven't been able to attend in years. I love the smell of the air and the color on all the trees, and the cooler weather is easier for me to live with. Plus, Sun/Moon are coming towards the end of the season! I've used melatonin before, and it usually works just fine. I did get a melatonin hangover once, which is exactly as fun as it sounds, but that's only once out of taking it now and then tens of times, so I'm not too concerned, all things considered.

I honestly do lowkey try to match the ball to the Pokemon in-game, which is why I get sad that we can't really use Apricorns in recent games. Some of them are great (and Heavy Balls are a gift from above.)

And answering my own question, 100% fairy. Sure they're pranksters, but they've got a good heart. Most of them are fluffy and pretty adorable.

I can imagine them giving me a bit of a headache in the library though. Mixing up books, moving things around and all that, but at least they'd be more on the quiet side and can't burn the place down.
