Poison is fairly easy as well. I did one in GSC and Nidoking/Queen, Gengar and Tentacruel can easily carry you throughout the entire game with their great movepools.

I think that's intended, considering the League itself peaks with lv50 mons. It's poorly paced, but Kanto more or less completes the standard level curve of a Pokemon game by having your levels in the 40-to-low 50s range when you're about to face Red.
