After hitting a 1000 in number something drastic is probably gonna happen.

I'm guessing Gen 9 will have an extinction event occur and officially scuttle a large number of pokemon.

There will probably be a cull of all the lesser redundant types and we'll see more variant forms instead of all new pokemon.
