I find Hoenn to be one of the comfiest regions for me, and that's one of the main reasons why -- you can get lost in Hoenn's landscape for hours just exploring, and that's some of my favorite experiences in Pokemon. (I don't mean literally lost, but... you get what I mean.)

Find a piece of Pokemon fanart, or maybe some music or a story, that makes you stop and think about the Pokemon world itself. It's a feeling of comfort and contentment, and maybe just a little longing. It's okay anon -- I know where you're coming from, I really do. When I first starting coming to comfy threads it genuinely caused me to feel existential, and even a little remorseful at the hand I'd been dealt, when such a wonderful place might exist somewhere. I grew up trying to stumble my way into the Pokemon world, with my friend -- we left notes in trees asking Mewtwo to take us to the Pokemon world, it made sense in our kid logic. I've grown out of the actively trying, but that faint wish -- I don't think it will ever go away.

But posting here, as time passes... it helps to bring a bit of closure to it, in a way. I cannot go to the place I most want to go (though the faint "but maybe, one day" will always be there!), but I can dream, and I can daydream. I can immerse myself in the games while I patiently wait for someone to use the new pokemon framework for unity to rig up a VR pokemon experience that I can just bliss out in. It's not the same. It's not what it could be -- but it is enough, for now.

But you aren't alone. And I understand. Sometimes our lives look really grim, but it's not always so bad. When you're in the thick of it, you can't even imagine a world outside of that heavy haze that whispers to you that things are never okay, that YOU aren't okay. But it eventually lifts. It always does, at least for a while. Sun and Moon are coming soon, and it looks like the comfiest set of games yet. Take heart, friend.

Guys it's not as easy as you say, a lot of my friends schedules don't match my own, so getting together is a nightmare.
Most of my family besides my dad and brother live out of state so that's out of the question too.
My gf and I barely go out since working hours are hell too on both ends.
I hate my 9-5 job and come home tired every day without any fun.

I don't have any local friends to be honest, everyone I know is online -- side-effect of living in a backwater town, even seeing people playing Go when it first launched was rare out here. I really get that craving to just leave it all behind and go off adventuring in a place that actually seems welcoming, compared to this interminable shell of an existence it feels like we lead sometimes. Exactly my thoughts on reading. When I find a good book, I'll read it non-stop and finish it in a sitting, but most of the books out there seem to be dreck. I feel like there's either YA fiction, Tolkien ripoffs, or dime-store-quality sci-fi.

50 Shades-y stuff, really badly done YA fiction in any genre, mostly-fabricated "true stories"/ biographies that might as well be historical fiction, and the occasional holy grail of a book that's actually worth the money. I've been rereading older books lately, but I can only read the same books so many times before I can recite them verbatim from memory. I think the last book I bought was honestly a butterfly identification picture book because I haven't seen anything I want to buy in ages.

I loved the Canalave library, as an aside. Little world/lore-buidling things like that are some of my favorites.

There's something that I love about libraries in general, especially vast, ancient ones with vaulted ceilings and the whole shebang. There seems to be so much wonder and mystery, but also coziness in them. All these bookfriends, yay! LibraryTech-Anon here and I support this discussion. I myself am a sucker for contemporary, horror and poetry. But I'll read anything.

Currently trying to learn some stuff about Buddhism because when I restart my librarytech program next September I want to try going to the many buddhist temples in that city. I'm from a farming community turned suburb and we have nothing here except for your standard catholic/christian churches.

I wish one of these days we'll get an official pokemon lore/history book. Even an art book would be lovely and amazingly comfy. I kind of like the idea of each professor having their own field notes/journals and being able to buy those as well.

I'll read anything if I can stand to continue reading it, but I really do love horror and mystery works like air. Anything with a supernatural tinge usually grabs my interest as well along with children's books because man sometimes we all need some whimsy in our lives.

I'm also thirding the sentiments here for a Pokemon Artbook. We've all seen some of the great pixel scenes from FRLG, the concept art of regions and stuff -- I'd ADORE a tabletop compilation of all of that. They should have made one for the 20th anniversary.

I relate to that. Alola looks like it might be one of the comfiest regions yet, and I just genuinely can't wait to sit down and start seeing what it's like. I haven't been this excited for a region specifically... ever, now that I think about it. November is still so far away, it's torture.

When I and my boyfriend saw it first time we were so happy that Exeggutor could have his "revenge"! It's a special mon, especially to my boyfriend, and I felt like it deserved something more. This is probably a little out of the blue, but if you guys have some downtime this weekend, you should watch Kimi no Na wa. It's got some super comfy backgrounds and it's directed by the guy who did 5cm/s. There's a better rip on nyaa, but if you can't into torrenting and can stomach low quality here's a youtube link that'll probably be taken down by tomorrow. Best movie I've watched all year, animated or otherwise, I think it's something a lot you guys would like.

Hoenn is comfy as fuck, everything after you surf that one little stretch of water east of Mauville feels exotic as fuck. That whole half of the region is gold. I also like the area around Fallarbour a lot, but unfortunately it doesn't seem to be as popular with artists as the areas around Fortree seem to be. I'd also like to see more art in Sootopolis and Pacifidlog and even Fortree itself.

Exploring Hoenn is still one of my favorite things after all these years. It just feels so BIG and wide-open. And I understand your love for the area around Fallarbor, it's tragically underrepresented in art most of the time. Fortree is probably the town I'd most want to live in, just off innawoods, in a treehouse home with my Pokemon friends, exploring the routes around me -- and if I need anything, Lilycove is pretty close-by, all things considered. I understand why artists focus on routes 119 and 120 though, it's probably the area that leaves the biggest mark on first time players. The impact everything has on you there is insane, it's like you're suddenly in a whole new region.

If I had to choose a town to live in I'd probably go with Pacifidlog. Which I also think is lacking in art. Now that I think about it, there's a lot of cool places in Hoenn that are tragically underrepresented in art. The abandoned ship, the quest for the gigas, the whole ocean area after Lilycove, just a lot of things really.

I'm also leaving /vp/ soon so I won't have the rest of Sun/Moon spoiled for me. I've never actually gone into a game fully blind before, so I want to try it kind of this time. Next game I'll hopefully be able to go into the games completely blind except for the starter final evo's.

i know this isn't a sun/moon thread but no thread has gotten me more hyped for sun/moon than this.

i haven't played a pokemon game in a long time, and while its sad that theres no real pokemon world to explore and have comfy adventures with pokemon and friends, at least pokemon exists to give me a world to immerse myself in, even if only for a few hours a day or whatever.
