In all honestyour, even if it is rushed in the story, I don't mind a simplistic game, and really fucking love the ideas of megas. 4chan just liked to be out of the social norm about say "gen 6 was autistic cancer" when clearly most people liked it anyways

But gen 4 was the worst if you exclude HG/SS I'm still hype for dp remakes though, I hope they make me like the region more

I liked XY's metagame a lot more than BW's, but that doesn't mean I'd ever actually play through the games again.

Are you? Good mechanics does not automatically imply good gameplay, whatever that means in this setting.

For instance, if you don't account for level design (world design rather) under the umbrella gameplay, then surely you can make an argument for poor design in that regard. It might not have to do with the fundamental mechanics, but it sure as hell impacts on how the game progresses. Are the routes interesting to navigate etc. This is of course just one element.

There is not really a significant change in the fundamental battle mechanics from gen V to VI. Sure, a new type changes stuff up, and so do megas, but there very few fairy types during a playthrough and megas are even scarcer. Hell, XY doesn't really allow you to use the majority untill post-game, even if they're present in the regional dex (as in, mega stone not obtainable without trading). How is that for a terrible mechanic? Even if the mechanic of megas is good, which is certainly up for debate, their implementation in game is just plain out terrible. This is another example of what I mentioned above, even if the mechanic is okay/good doesn't mean the game gets better. Adding to that, gen VI has so horrible frame rate drops at times that affects battles. The mechanics don't matter shit in that regard.

Besides that, there are numerous other factors. Plot, characters, soundtrack, available pokémon, level curve, trainer variety, visual style, post game and extra activities to name only some.

I really liked Gen 6. It was barebones in terms of story and endgame. But I liked customizing my trainer, friend safari, and most of the pokemon it introduced.

I even enjoyed megas.
