That looks like SSR1 which was very unrefined. SSR3 really put the series into its own. But it was already generally unpopular by the time it came out because of the meh quality of the previous 2 so it was a textbook case of too little too late.

Not who you are replying to, but yeah. Literally set in the same universe, but much later. The first games had a bonus thing if yoy had one of the battle network games in the GBA slot if i remember. It changed a couple small elements, like having the camera set behind the character and only having 3 squares to move between, but its still chip based and used the cust gauge.
