That's fucked up if his own family experimented on him. It wouldn't be too far of with how Ghetisis manipulated and used N.

Expanding on my theory:

After Aether successfully created an aritficial pokemon they now want to create a pokemon-human hybrid. Maybe something like synchro-evolution? They need a test subject and choose Gladion. Something goes wrong and he now has to live with a tremor. He vows to stop the Aether Foundation so he joins Team Skull.

To illustrate this further. After Gladion leaves the Aether Foundation, they are still not done with their human-pokemon experiments. Lillie volunteers because she agrees with the views of the Foundation and wants to protect pokemon. This time it is successful and UB-01 is created.

Holy fuck.
