The designs tend to get lost in the details.
They're not as immediately recognizable as most Pokemon.

Now people here will tell you that means they're objectively worse, but really the only measurable advantage they have is that Pokemon are just more marketable to the lowest common denominator.

Just like what you like and don't worry so much about everyone else.
