Why the fuck does M-gengy go through the floor?

Well, i was thinking, there's a story from somewhere in london about a ghost that appears once every week or so, but you never see its feet. one day, the floor of the building was being removed, and they found a second layer underneath from long before, the next time the ghost was spotted, it was walking on that floor

could M-geng be a ref to that story?
