What is there to appreciate? It's cute, but it's frustratingly garbage to use in-game so there's no reason to pick it outside of masochism.

People tried it out because it's cute, but then they use it in-game and it's painful to use.
There's your reason. It is completely unfun to use so it turned people off to the design.
