The Battle Frontier is supposed to be built on the same area the Battle Resort is on, which from Hawaii to Japan is a relatively short distance away, so in game you can probably take a ferry, maybe even the SS Anne

Maybe the top of the Battle Tower will have an observation deck where you can see Hoenn off in the distance, it would be kind of a nice refernce to the Battle Frontiers roots in Emerald

They could really go all out and add a bit of a story line just like they did with contests in ORAS
Maybe there's a Battle Frontier exhibition match where you go through each of the facilities once and battle the Frontier Brain at the end (Like 7 trainers in the Battle Tower to fight Anabel)
Doing this nets you a Bronze symbol and then unlocks the regular frontier mode, where you go for Silver and Gold

They could incorporate other characters who trying to get all the symbols before you and will occasionally battle you as you earn a few, like an upgraded version of the Battle Tower apprentice from Emerald

I would say beat a regular BF storyline/mission, then you get badge called "Battle ???? Badge."

Have gold badges available from "super mode," but keep their existence well hidden from casuals. Removing the "silver" from regular badges would make casuals think there is no "Gold badges" A perfect method to appeal to casuals!

Let's assume that they actually put the Battle Frontier into SM, however they've upgraded it to include 10 facilities. What would you think of the following;

Actually, there is a location in Alola called Battle Royal Dome. BR is also an online mode. It looks to be that colorful gray building on the island with the rural/farm town.

Each of them could battle you to test your skills as a warm up for the facilities

I can only speak for myself but for me a good Pokemon game should be both content rich and innovative.

The last game to fit the bill was indeed BW2. XY was innovative but lacked content. ORAS had neither.

It was the top game for ages in Japan, and as far as I know, Nintendo doesn't release digital sales numbers.

Ergo, this is more about the Japanese game industry shrinking as opposed to Youkai Watch 3 doing poorly, although admittedly it didn't do well as some of the previous entries because Level-5 is pumping them out too quickly (something they've now thankfully caught onto), but there are a lot of factors involved, and one of the big ones is the game industry in Japan just not being as big as it used to be.

A lot of Japanese gamers are playing on mobile devices now instead of dedicated handhelds. That's why they're porting the original Youkai Watch to mobile.

Plus it should be noted that, at least in my opinion, Youkai Watch 3 was a misstep. They got rid of the original female character which people liked and they did the whole 'Merican Youkai thing which was based on stereotypes and not a whole lot of creativity, so it's not entirely surprising to see it fail to take off.

First YW game sold 1,33M in Japan, YW 3 is already about to outsell it. YW 2 sold over 3M in Japan in 2 years, YW3 is doing pretty great

First of all this is YW3 second month on shelves (game debuted mid-July)

Secondly, my point is that YW2 managed to push over 2,5 times more copies within a similar timeframe. If that not a huge drop in popularity then I don't know what is. For comparision, XY sold over 4 million copies while ORAS sold about 2,7 million copies.

The frontier should be the highest level of gameplay without going against other living humans, luck should be less of a factor.
