Also, to add onto to that, I don't dislike Gates. The plot is charming enough and doesn't have real pacing problems like Super, the side characters are some of the best written in the series, the music is great as usual, and the experiments with the mechanics are more interesting than what Super did. It's just the limited pokemon selection (and DLC, I didn't mention that) really puts me off the game. It's not a full fledged 40 dollar game if you ask me, and I would be infinitely more forgiving if it had been priced as such.

I actually forgot about the lack of Pokémon. It's disappointing but that's not an issue for me. Neither are the starters.
And I suppose that the gameplay is dull compared to Super.
As for Super, first there's the Connection Orbs. You can't nickname most Pokémon (then again I'm biased because I always nicknamed them in past games). Like some people say, the story isn't very engaging at first. They also made the standard attack too weak.
I respect the opinion of people who like Super more, but I don't like how people say that Gates is complete shit. It's still their opinion, but it still is a pretty good game.

I just today finished GTI main story and epilogue, and have to agree the story/characters are great. The gameplay drove me off of it quite a few times though, especially coming from Gates, even making me put it on a 5 months hiatus at a time. On the other hand, I cried 3 times throughout the last quests (pls no bully). It's indeed not really worth 40 bucks and I wouldn't have played it if I didn't have a hacked 3DS, but those last quests really got me and I'm feeling quite empty now that I'm done.

Oh well, time to resume SMD's post-epilogue.
