About 1/4 of 2/5 of them are good. Sadly most are shit, Genesect is lame, and the Muskateers/Robin Williams/Tao are shit trios. Still better than gen 4 though.

If only there could be balance between gen 1/gen 3/gen 5/gen 7 so things are better than bland but have a nice balance of cartoony/realistic proportions.

The "we're rebooting Gen 1" thing I get, -although I don't necessarily LIKE it- but so, so many Gen V Pokemon are just redundant.

Gen 5 would've been better if they didn't have so many Pokemon -some even in the same generation- all trying to fill the same niche. Seriously, how many Trick Room Psychics do we really need? Not to mention they didn't even try to IMPROVE on the old mons. They replaced Hypno, an objective shitmon, with Musharna, which is also objectively a shitmon.

And poor, poor Zoroark. Hyped up in its own movie, then introduced in the gen where Team Preview was introduced, and not given enough defenses to even survive a stiff breeze. Every time its Illusion wears off, it's because it's been fucking knocked out. It's such a waste.

Gen V sprites are fucking terrible.

I think the gen just has more of a gap between the good ones & the bad ones than other gens do. They range from super good like Darmanitan & Gigalith & all of the bugs etc to nuclear terrible like most of the legendaries & shit.

I love all of them, gen 5 is my 3rd favorite gen with so many pokemons i love, remember people, while more quantity may not necessarily give more quality, neither will less quantity (see gen6 for reference).

To me Gen 5 has the best and the worst Pokemon in the entire franchise.

Sigilyph, Yamask, Eelektross-line, Axew-line, Chandelure and Venipede-line are some of my all time favorites.

Snivy-line is one of the best looking starters IMO, but the other two are disappointing.

And then there atrocities like the genies, the ice cream (the trashbag is decent IMO), Patrat, the boring-ass monkeys, Klang, the golems, the polar bear, and generally extremely underwhelming legendaries.

Far too many pokemon in gen V look like they belong in some shitty Chinese bootleg.

As far as I'm aware, this is when designs really started to come from a lot of artists. The earlier gens had very few artists/designers, so they all felt a little more cohesive (if a little too similar, aka Gen I kaiju monsters). I'm pretty sure this is why they originally didn't have a very strong "Pokemon feel," though as time goes on I'm reteaching myself what designs look Pokemon-ish.

Reason 5 gen pokemon are bad is because gamefreak wasted their time on the best pokemon story line and didn't put any effort into 5th gen pokemon at least it still better than 1st and 2nd gen pokemon, but not by much.
