Johto has alot of random areas.
For example in Azalea you can get a headbutt encounter a little the right a new encounter in the well.
The route before Azalea, the cave before that route.
And you get a fishing rod at the start.

Does FRO change evo stone pokemon movesets so that you don't have to wait 50 levels as a shit NFE before you get a decent move?

Nuzlocke is literally dumb handicapping. That's why I suggested those two rules: like it or not, they are the less arbitrary rules I can think in Pokémon.

You want another rule? No switching. The opposing trainers never switch Pokémon, why should you? If you face a water type and have a Geodude out while having a Raichu on the bench, sorry, tough luck.

That's as challenging I can think of, and IMO, it's already incredibly tough.

I'm seriously thinking this "no overleveling" rule is probably the best way to play Nuzlocke.

I've already started two new runs:
- Pokémon Emerald
- Pokémon HeartGold

Fucking Scraggy when my team consists of a dark, ghost, psychic and normal types. One faint attack cut Gastly down to 4 hp, but Night Shade + Ember and it was done for. Then Gastly again didn't even let Timburr look at her weird. All by still having 4 hp.

Hypnosis by Gastly and switch to Mewtwo, cause shit was getting too risky. Left Mewtwo for 'cham and just spammed the shit out of Confusion. Given that I found Metronome somewhere around, pretty valid strategy at this point.

Another rather easy badge. I'm still not sure if I let the Ditto stay, though.

Update on the template I'm working on, I brightened things up, divided the badge slot, and severely reduced the image size when someone pointed out it was around 4K. I'm a little worried about brightening it anymore, for fear that it'd be hard to distinguish the actual Pokemon when they're put in the center space.

In other news, Paul evolved into Marowak, I caught Harambre the lombre, as well as Zamolodchi the shroomish.

but AutoZone fucking ripped Burgh a new one. After Leviathan set up Stealth Rock and survived a Razor Leaf with 6 HP, AutoZone switched in and T-Waved/Supersonic'd/SonicBoomed everyone up til the Leavanny took it down with a crit.
The newest newfag, Jodi Arias the Audino (caught in that little grove next to the Castelia Sewers), stepped in and Attracted/Secret Powered her way to victory. Couldn't have done it without AutoZone though.

Cool, that should be challenging. Especially with 2 out of 4 pokes being weak to it. Just hope for no losses.

"Houndoom used Fiery Dance." End of Nuzleaf's career. Then I switched for Azumarill to farm her (for some reason all of my pokemon are either female or genderless, the only exception is dead). Thick fat and weasel couldn't do shit.

Both OHKO'd by charcoal-boosted Fiery Dance.
>Clown #3: Liepard, Skuntank, Honchkrow.
First one taken down by a couple of Gastly's Octazookas. Gotta love these random signature move TMs. Then switched to Mewtwo just to see how it would go. One barrier, two swifts, birb down. Did some damage, but nothing too dangerous. Getting to Skuntank with the intention to switch after turn 1, suddenly a Swift crit and I don't need to. Welp, can't complain.
>Clown #4: Drapion x2
Mewtwo close to a level-up, so I start with him. Barrier on my side and his super effective attacks can't do shit. They're all bug type too, so no STAB. This one actually is pretty tanky and takes a few turns to finish, which makes Mewtwo a bit risky pick for the next one. I try with Azumarill. After a rather lenghty attacks exchange they brought each other to red HP bars, Fresh water since I hella smart, then going for easy kill. It's probably the first trainer in the gym I had to actually put up a fight with.
Clown #Burgh: Darkrai, Shiftry, Mightyena.
Darkrai was a pain in the ass due to Disable, Hypnosis and Hyper Potions, but Houndoom survived. Shiftry got OHKO'd thanks to Fiery Dance buffs inbetween. Mightyena was offed by a combo of Mewtwo and Gastly.

3 badges, one pokemon down. Not bad. Unfortunately, I offed half of locations or caught pokes not useful enough to grind. Hope Desert Resort brings at least one new of two possible.

EZ mode for the first gym. I had Opie, so I figured as such. I took Froge along for the fight as well, just in case. Opie did get pretty low due to Infestation and a potion on Vivillion, but it wasn't enough to stop his Blitzkrieg. We'll be moving on the long road towards 2nd gym now, there's sure to be some evolutions, new captures, and probably some losses before we get there though.

The Dupe Clause was made for that entire reason. Yes originally Ruby: Hard Mode was all about catching the first thing you see, no legendaries, and pokemon die when they faint instead, but those rules don't even apply to the original creator anymore due to how certain games in the series works because of repeat Pokemon out the wazoo. Again, its fine to play it by catching the first of everything, that is more than fine, but as I said, its not for everyone which is why Dupe Clause exists.

I just beat Whitney in my HG run, and I need to know if I should ditch my Togetic until I get a shiny stone, and leave it as a backup?

Last update for the night, made it to Camphrier. I managed to pick up, and then almost immediately lose a Bunnelby to a trainer who had a Kadabra out of nowhere. Other than that, just a bunch of evolutions.

Just took out Clay, going to be stopping here for the night. Never even occurred to me that his Nidoking could be packing Thunderbolt. Now I'm down a water and flying type again.

On the other hand based Tristan made short work of Clay's Excadrill with Unaware+Cosmic power making him nigh unkillable. Lissa put in some good work too, with Miracle Seed boosted Leaf Blade taking out Krookodile in one shot even after Intimidate at the start. I swear Leavanny has to be the best regional bug to date.

Stopping for now,hope the game doesn't need me to fly anywhere anytime soon. See you tomorrow /nzg/.

Well, I've nuzlocked like 4 games so far, some of which I've went into completely blind and ended up winning 3 of the 4, and only losing one most of the way through the game.

My nuzlocke runs have the rule : No using potions in battle, and no outleveling the gym leaders highest level mon.

So I decided I'd try a blind Platinum nuzlocke today.
Rolled for which starter I'd pick etc, got Turtwig and had a nice team of 6 built up shortly after.

I got fucking wiped in the first gym man...
I thought my turtwig could fucking shit on the gym since it's the first gym and it's rock type.
Battle starts, I was going to just lolabsorb through the entire fight, but I EVEN stopped myself from doing that and decided I best be cautious, just for the hell of it, you know? So I hardened up 3 times, was on half health at that point and didn't want a rock throw from geodude to kill me, so I absorb killed it and healed to full, with +3 defense.

Onix comes out and gets in 2 fucking screetches, because I didn't kill it as quickly as I expected.

Then that fuckers ace mon comes out, I can't even remember it's name.

Headbutts my turtwig, takes half of its health, and flinches it, i end up throwing out my shitty low level geodude to die and to get rid of the screech effect, but alas, when I brought the turtwig back out, he flinched it again, which was pretty much the end since it outspeeds me and 1 more hit would kill it.

Everything else on my team just got wrecked by it after that.

It happens man, Platinum is a deadly game. Cranidos can troll. Gardenia and Candice are almost sure fire team wipes though due to Roselia and Froslass.

Only one thing left to do. Gotta go back into it and give the game the respect it deserves. I have heard that Plat is a tough one as far as the mainline games are concerned.

Plat is probably the hardest aside from B2/W2.
Even then, you could argue Plat is harder because no infinite TMs.

Platinum is most definitely the hardest due to the crazy jump in levels between gyms except Byron/Candice, since its a short jump of like 2 levels, everyone else jumps up by like 5 or 6 and you don't really have the trainers in between to train. Then you go from Volkner at Lv. 50 with his highest all the way to the Elite Four where I think Cynthia's highest is like Lv. 65 or 66.
