Honestly they'll most likely choose a safe country where tourists are treated well (i.e. Safe, modern, and non controversial), so no 3rd world countries which rules out the entirety of South America, Africa, Eastern Europe and the Middle East. Lastly, the region needa a distinct shoreline to allow for an interesting design and geography. I think it would be possible for the next region to take place in Seoul, South Korea as long as they don't mention anything about north korea.

It has the possibility to be really neat. But I agree that the next region should ultimately be somewhere cooler like Russia or Canada. I really hate the tropically, warm regions. I want some snow or some rain and to be able to cuddle with my mons inside a secret base while sipping on some hot cocoa or tea.

A region based on a place really different from all the other ones would be nice, like the Middle East, South America, or Africa. But I doubt that would happen for various reasons. A southeastern Asian inspired region seems more plausible and would be neat. A Russian region would be cool too.

It will be in an area that has some relevance to Japan, the Pokemon Company or Gamefreak.

I've always wanted a Cascadia region.
This is a nice little rom hack me and my friends made. We tried making fakemons but they sucked ass so we just added one salmon family. Contained gens 1-4 but mostly sinnoh and johto.

I would also start you in the north georgia area cause it's super cozy, so the ice mons would be soon into the game.
Like you said, Atl would make a good huge town and it's central in the state so it can be used as a focal point of the map

I just have no idea what to fill in the void of farmland that is the south of the state. Maybe just make it a literal dessert then.
