Aside from dealing damage, will Z-moves have any secondary effect?
It would make no sense if only their animations are different.
I expect that it would be something like secondary effects of Pledge moves, which would create something like Swamp or Rainbow.
Inb4, Raichu's z-move creates Electric Terrain.

Don't forget that Z-moves are 1 per battle, so it's barely even a combo even if that were the effect.

Yes. But Mega is also once per battle, and more so on specific pokemon. Still changed the game a fuck lot.
Z-Moves on the other hand, all pokemon can use them. While it might not be as impactful as Mega, I think, given the right additional effect, it can be a big change.
