Like it or not, but Kanto has the most classic Pokemon; the general public is familiar with them and loves them.

The pandering is significantly less obvious in this gen. They actually have the excuse of this being the 20th anniversary and they're making Kanto mons more appealing and viable, which they desperately need. We'll have regional variants of other gens in future games.

That's one Pokemon. Others like the starters, Dragonite, Jigglypuff, Meowth, etc. are more recognizable than the vast majority of other gen mons.

Not to say their designs are better, but GF will do what's most profitable. I don't mind the "pandering". I love the Alola forms. If they have other regional variants in the future, it will span all gens. This is like a trial run.

I've seen the complete opposite reaction. In particular, I've seen a lot of love for Alolan Vulpix/Ninetales and Alolan Marowak. Time will tell.

The people that hate Alolan forms are drenched in nostalgia and I just can't sympathize. My first game was Pokemon Red and I've grown up with the franchise, but I adore the Alola forms. Really fresh and unique take on old mons.

Eh, they should know better than to give so many concessions to one region so often, leaving out the others. It's their job to know the fanbase, and 2 of the first things anyone would learn about it is that each Gen is someone's favorite, and some of their fans didn't start on Gen 1. They're practically alienating a lot of people by ignoring the wishes of roughly 4 to 5/6 of them, and the discontent isn't a secret at all. It's odd for Nintendo not to listen to fans for new release input, and given the timing, I'd almost guess it had something to do with Satoru Iwata suddenly passing last year. They lost sight somewhere, and they preferred to look at what worked in the past, instead of putting in the legwork to listen. They lost important leadership, and with him gone, I expect this to be the first of many slip-ups from them for at least another year.
But gaming entities undergoing fiscal problems sometimes resort to making deals with 3'rd parties, so crossovers might be more likely.
