Also, like I said in another thread. If I don't like sun/moon I'm take a break from the franchise until it sparks my interest again. To be honest with how XY turned out.. it really made me lose faith, but I've preorded Moon and I'm going to give it a chance. I even bought a new 3ds (I have a 2ds) so I could have a better playing experience.

All the games have to do is have a good story, lots of exploration, a post-game of somesorts, and I'll be happy.

My only worry is that new evolutions of old Pokemon are no longer a thing.

I like maybe 25 different pokemon lines and that's it, so it feels like there's only like 60 or so pokemon I care about.

Weirdly enough ,Gen 7 has introduced the most pokemon I like so far out of any gen, I might hit like 40 lines I like byt then e of this gen.

Regional forms are more for world building, while also eliminating having to duplicate the same source material on two Pokemon species.
There need to be new Pokemon so long as there are lifeforms and culture present in the real world that have not yet been translated into a monster design.

I still think Gen 3 handled the balance the best.
Early routes had nothing but new pokemon, so everything felt fresh. You don't even see a returning one until the first gym, and you can t catch any until you reach the second.

Of the ones returning, they are a minority, and are often there because the fit perfectly or because they didn't want to make a rehash. Slugma are in Fiery Path, Tentacool are in the ocean, but as things open up you're still seeing a good mix of old and new.

I'm not entirely sure if you're just being stubborn on purpose now or not, and you certainly have the right to feel any type of way you want about Pokémon, but just because how you feel is true for you doesn't make it true for everyone.

If you don't like the concept of new species, then Pokémon might not be a great fit for you as a series built on that exact concept. Because it's great. The more the better. I love getting a new region every 1-2 years to see what new Pokemon they have created. I've never been disappointing because I actually like the series ever since I was out of the womb and got a Pikachu necklace to wear until I was able to play Yellow.

The more variety, the more fun and interesting it gets. I've loved every region and I have appreciated every Pokemon design since. Some I don't like, but that doesn't mean I wish it wouldn't exist, because there is always going to be something you don't like, you can't appeal to everyone. Fuck Illumise and Volbeat, they are ugly, but I still appreciate the design and variety they are given. Kind of like how I hate flies and wish they didn't exist. Nothing I can do about it, and there is nothing you can do about the new Pokemon. Not that anon, but no I don't think 721 is too much, and I don't think 1000 is too much either. I just don't want another XY where over half of such a massive number are catchable, it was way too many and unless you were gunning for completing that Pokedex you weren't going to see even some of the more common 'mons. I caught that Fletchling early on, and he kinda dominated, so I just kept on moving through the game and never even saw Pikachu or Eevee, all because I was just working my to the next town fighting whatever I happened to see.

I think the best would be 100 new Pokemon with a mix of about 100-150 others, getting a regional dex at 250ish. Introduce more regional forms to keep older "filler" mon more interesting like Dark Rattata, so we don't have 25% of the new dex bogged down by single Legendaries, the exclusives, and regionals, so that the healthy portion are new and interesting Pokemon.

Of course, that's just my opinion. I like having options, but I also like being forced into trying something new. A little contradictory, but I think some people would feel the same.

I played Blue and stopped when I saw Gold and Silver (or R/S) because at the time it seemed like they were all the same. I even tried Diamond and Soul Silver but I was bored. BW and XY got my interest back because it felt fresh.

I hope you feel the same but I understand since you've been more involved than I have. I really hope Moon will turn out to be fun.
