The reason Smogon is a problem is that it completely ruined the game for actual fucking children. Instead now everyone uses these fucking over-plotted strategies and feels great about themselves because they manipulated the game so that its impossible for kids to fight them.

Pokemon is supposed to have very basic combat, with type advantages and evolutions being the key to victory, but the average pedantic jerkass makes it so some kid online can throw super effective attacks and have them do nothing because the 37 year old lonely prick had the time and basement space to re-engineer their pokemon.

Yeah, Pokemon is a game that it marketed towards kids, yet many games that are popular among adults are. Super Mario, Wii Sports, Mario Kart, Splatoon, Megaman, Super Smash Bros, etc, are all marketed towards kids yet are commonly played by adults. The endgame for pokemon is actually garbage. There is no real balance or strategy involved. If there was, the top competitive pokemon would be numerous rather than maybe 20 out of the 800+ we're about to have.

I doubt the creators meant for adults to completely min/max the game to smogon levels.

EVs, IVs, natures and different kinds of strategies are in the game for a reason, right? Do you think VGC is held every year just so kids can click Blast Burn with their Charizard against the opposing Venusaur because le type advantages should win you the battle? You can't be this fucking dense. Pokemon battling is not based exclusively around type interactions, but also hidden stats, different strategies and correct predictions. You don't understand this because you just want to win by clicking le super effective hit, and that's why you're out here whining instead of winning battles.

The funny thing about this is that Smogon actually helps inexperienced players to get into the game. They have strategy guides and in-depth explanations about what different EV spreads and coverage moves are supposed to accomplish. Thanks to Smogon, many players understand competitive Pokemon much better than they did before and they've been able to become much better in the game. This is yet again something that you don't understand so you're yelling "Just play the fucking game!!!" to people who actually are playing the game and spending time to learn it better. Just because you suck and want the games to lack depth doesn't mean that other players should sink down to your level. Seriously, just fuck off with your whining.

Just because the current meta is unbalanced doesn't mean that there isn't strategy, provided that both players are using viable teams. Regardless, the current sorry state of the metagame stems from mistakes at the individual pokemon level, not from a fault in the gameplay system as a whole. The metagame has been balanced, strategic, and fun in the past, and can be again.

To be honest, I always though it'd be best if online competitive just automatically scaled all IV's to 31 when battling. Obviously it'd have to be fixed to work with different Hidden Powers but it always seemed like the simplest way of evening the playing field, especially when Super Training came in.
