Shota is a super rookie trainer who really wants to be great, but not in an arrogant way like young Ash. He likes his role models, particularly Ash and Steven, and keeps a notebook where he eagerly writes down any kind of pointers he can get from them. TPCi basically decided they needed to cut costs in producing the dub and basically flipped off Veronica Taylor (original dub Ash) and co by telling them, to their faces, they weren't needed anymore and fans wouldn't care if they recast the dub.

LA is quickly becoming a cesspit of graduated fandubbers working on low-budget anime dubs that pay scraps. Everything else is pretty much only out there for Troy Baker-type folk. If you're not in either of those extremes you're pretty much out of work because there's not a ton of "mid budget" stuff out there. Which is depressing since the only things I've heard Taylor in was the shitty new Sailor Moon dub and World of Warcraft.
