Man, I often give Gen 5 a lot of shit, but it really did have some solid Pokemon and I can easily pick out a team I'd be perfectly happy to use.

Literally every gen except gen 6 had 100+, and gen 6 didn't even have that many fewer, while being an evennumbered gen (which tend to introduce notably fewer than oddnumbered gens). There's really no need to be this paranoid. For now gen 6 is an outlier. If gen 7 has less than 100, then you'll have good basis for assuming that about future gens, but right now you don't.

There is plenty of rationality in expecting less than 100. EVery Gen besides 6 has had at least 100, but it's logical to expect the number of new ones t sow down as the franchise continues. New Megas meant they could give us something "new" without increasing the number, and ALola forms look the same. I'm expecting ~80 as well

I expect them to make one version game in the the future with around 50 new pokemon nx.

I can agree with that reasoning even up to 100 new mons. 70 is too few for a game to feel entirely new

Hopefully 100, plus 30+ Alolan forms.

It does seem like Game Freak to count Alolan forms as new Pokemon, like they did with Megas.
