I really like the concept of it, a nuclear slug that's mutated and feeds off of radiation. And this thing might have the potential of being the decent defensive Ice type. But I hope it gets Filter as its HA or it would be such a waste.

I have a very soft spot for Crawglock since I was heavily involved in working on it's design back when the dex was first being made. It's been ages so I forget most of the design work, but from the entire design, I implemented the "antenna/eyebrow+eye dot" feature, which I take great pride in.

Also I thought up Lavoon's lava lamp belly.

And I was the one who first created Pokeman. I know this sounds like I'm trying to gloat, but I just feel really, really happy that people liked my concepts enough to include them into a project.

I first suggested Pokeman just as a support character who comes in, like Looker, but is actually a competent trainer who helps out against the villains and challenging the player to help them grow once in a while. Probably the Warquila line. I started monitoring the project early and that was the first family I was around for the designing of. I'm a biologist and a birder so I had a lot of input on the concept, design, and various facets.

In the end, I came up with the names, species, and Pokédex text for all three of them. Aquilor was actually Aquilior, but someone misspelled it on a compilation poster and that remained ever since.

I love that it ended up decent for an early game bird with respectable attack and speed, Drill Run, and Moxie. I did argue against using red with gray and darker gray for fear of emulating Staraptor too much, but it did turn out really cool. And I'll finally admit that the star Kamina glasses I was unsure about ended up looking great.

I like all the designs a lot but man, whoever they have deciding the base stats and typings for Pokémon are pretty boring. Too many boring monotypes when the Pokémon itself was clearly designed to be a dual-type. I get that they want some monotypes to pad out the dex but stuff like Thorax was clearly designed to be more than just pure Bug.

It's the same with the stat distributions too. Too many cookie-cutter distributions or just outright shit Pokémon that aren't good at anything. It also looks like they've also taken the Gamefreak route of "every early mon needs to be shit".

It's probably not something I'd play anymore since it'll be hard adjusting to no Fairy types and going back to a Gen 4(?) engine. Took a little too long to deliver the goods without any consistent flow of information to pique interest. Still glad to see it's going, though.

I find it hilarious what people think about the statistics of the pokemon in. Sage having never played with them in game or showdown. Almost nobody ever gets it right.

The system is gen 5ish btw. Some aspects of 4, some of 6 and some of our own but mostly 5. And there is a quite a bit of information flowing through things like sporadic posts here. Sporadic as they may be you can even get real time updates with the most basic level contribution.

It's definetly a cool concept and it has a movepool to back it up, but the problem is it's own typing: Ice/Poison. Poison is a good defensive typing and its stats back this up which is great, but Ice hardly has any defensive potential going on for it. And it doesn't help it has so many common weaknesses. But nothing is lost yet, all it needs is Filter and it will definetly come out as a handy mon.

Also, why did the first design got scrapped ? I love the idea of a pokemon based on nuclear winter. It could've also been the offensive variant if the line with Snow Warning.

I definetly agree. The typing don't bother me since they fit with most of them, but man who was in charge for the stats. Some are ok, but other make them plain useless, like take the Poison mushroom evo line, the one that evolves in Poison/Grass, Poison/Electric and Poison/Ghost. None of them are usefull, slow and with base stats that vary wildly between them, Lumishroom being the worst. And don't even get me started on the mono Grass types in this dex. And even the starters have this problem. Aguanaut, the Water/Fighting one is easily the worst, mediocre speed, Atk not even reaching 100 and it's Def is its best stat. If it was less focused on Def and instead offense, then boy this thing would be fantastic.

I could go on and on about all the pokemon I have problems with and they are quite a lot.

Gengar is alright, but its nature as a cruel doppelganger isn't super conveyed in its aesthetic or game performance. At a time when Butterfree and Venomoth could swap evolution lines in spite of a total visual disjoint, Haunter Gengar wer just slapped onto Gastly because GF couldn't figure out how to make two different Ghost lines in Gen 1. Hence the meaningless Poison type when only Gastly is a Gas.

Well it's not really a noxious draught theme so much as it's an organic chemistry reaction combined with haunted glassware. You can see how the reaction grows in volatility and reactiveness as the design goes from Phlask to Noxial to Fumighast and how the "gas" changes color and the glassware breaks more and more with each phase change. It also shows how Phlask goes from inhabiting the glassware to Fumighast wearing the glassware and the gas going from containee to manipulator.

Just because that's not how things turned out. Hindset is 20/20. IIRC, the concept for the line started out more as the biological virus, and over time more electronic variations got suggested till the final mons are almost completely computer viruses, but nobody bothered to/wanted to deal with the drama of suggesting a type change that whole time.

A more ergegious example is pebblosa being pure normal over normal rock like it's evos, especially since the rock dog in SM is litterally the exact same design idea but with a dog instead of an anteater, and it's rock.

We even voted on changing it to rock normal but a bunch of people voted no just out of the principal of changing typings for mons this late (this was back in spring and the vote tied nobody wants to open the can of worms again so it'll never come up again

Vectol being pure Poison is much better in my opinion.

It's based on a virus, making it be electric just because its a digital virus seems like such a pointless thing to do just cause you "should".
Like if a cow pokemon had to be ground type because it lives on the ground, less extreme but something like that.

On that note I also like that Squink isn't water just because its a squid, it is what it needs to be rather what it "should be".
