Regional Forms at best do nothing because the new form is just as or even shittier, and at worst make your old friends completely irrelevant since it's not just a form change you can apply to your old Pokemon. Which is kind of a punch to the dick especially when they have Hyper Training.

The design philosophies behind most regular Evolutions and Mega Evolutions are quite different, with the approach from the latter being more likely to appeal to those who already like the Pokemon, since they're supposed to be like a given Pokemon but super charged.

Regular Evolutions more often make drastic changes, especially cross-gen Evolutions. There's a reason most Pokemon that people prefer the unevolved forms of are those who got an Evolution in later generations.

And you can always use multiple teams or mix them up.

I like Megas because they provide an existing Pokemon with a boost without turning them into a completely different Pokemon. I believe that, for some Pokemon, a temporary "form change" along those lines is a better solution to making them better than giving them an additional evolution whose appearance might not be in line with what fans of the original want (see: Rhyperior). This works well for Pokemon that already feel "complete" as a concept despite only being one or two stages, or for Pokemon who cannot evolve further.

Simply giving old Pokemon a new ability can work wonders, but it is also not particularly interesting. Some Mega designs fall flat, but for others they manage to take a Pokemon's existing traits and expand upon them in visually appealing ways. I believe that, while Game Freak may have stumbled a bit in some regards, there is a lot of potential inherent in the mechanic that I want them to explore and develop further.

Simply put, I don't think getting rid of Megas because there were a few stinkers is a rational reaction. Rather than throw the baby out with the bathwater, I would rather they try to refine and improve upon it in the future.

You, for whatever reason, don't like Megas. I can respect that. But I'm glad that Game Freak added them and look forward to seeing what they do with it in the future.
