I have a Ditto for every somewhat useful nature, some of them have 3+ 31s.
Breeding with Ditto is a clutch and you shouldn't do it unless absolutely necessary.

How hopeless would it be to try and do some online battling without having a full team of Pokemon with perfect IVs?

I'm just getting back into the game and I'm willing to put the effort in and breed strong Pokemon, though I'm not sure I'll have the patience to make them the absolute best they can be. I would also like to use a team that is not made of the same 6 Pokemon that apparently everyone uses in tournaments.

Breeding doesn't take that long, you can get a 5IV Pokemon in a few hours using the DexNav and the Friend Safari
If you really don't have time to breed/train, you can always go to >>28120298 and see if there's any injectors around who will make your team

Depends, sometimes the IVs do matter, but you should be fine at lower levels. at level 50, where most of the on cart battling happens, having imperfect IVs means a loss of at most 15 points in any stat, but that's assuming you have 0 IVs everywhere.

Like >>28122428 said, Dexnav helps out to get usable stuff, and if you just have XY, Friend Safari Pokemon have two perfect IVs guaranteed.

It might come as a surprise to some people, but a game marketed at 10-year olds is indeed played by 10-year olds.
Stomping them online is pretty easy.

That said, breeding is piss easy if you're willing to put minimum effort into it and most things are decided by dice rolls anyway.
Unless you're planning to play ultra-pro vgc matches or something, decent will carry you far enough.
The only stat you shouldn't compromise on being Speed.

I'm thinking about building a team with the ones I like the most aesthetically, so far those would be: Seviper, Froslass, Mismagius, Mawile, Sableye. Aggron, Sharpedo, Altaria, Banette, Sylveon and Steelix
Pls no bully, I'm pretty sure at least half of them are terrible, I just think they look pretty rad.
I'm willing to compromise and complement some of the ones I like with some that are more powerful, even if I don't particularly like them.

Well, if you're playing RU, you NEED a Flygon check. Diancie is it. Also, BST has pretty much only limited influence on good a Pokemon is. Regular Hoopa is a pretty good example of that.

Non Mega Diancie is RU for a reason, it can work at higher tiers, but there are much better walls like Tangrowth or even SpD Talonflame that bring a lot more to the table.

Nah, Nidoqueen is base 76, and Diancie goes from base 50 to 110.

On the turn that Diancie goes mega, it doesn't get the speed, but it's defenses drop, so you can punish if they go for Earth Power instead of using protect or switching.

The problem is that Nidoqueen starts getting worn down after a couple attacks, and if any decent physical attacker switches in on a resisted hit or an immunity, you give the other guy the initiative.

Sheer Force Nidoqueen also needs a lot of support to properly sweep, since any half decent special wall will just eat up whatever it throws at it.

It can work, but it's not optimal. I'd say Goodra is a lot more workable as a comparable AV user due to having a wider movepool and more special bulk, to the point where the damage it takes from special hits is negligible in most cases.
