I used to hate this coloration but after getting one shiny its sort of growing on me.

Amoongus, Lopunny, Tangela and Tangrowth, Metagross, and Cresselia all look nice. Tangrowth line is notable for being one of the only good green shinies.

All up until gen 5, it was just a find and replace algorithm, with a few exceptions (fairly sure Gyarados and Charizard were handmade)
From Gen 6 onward (and the death of sprites) they were done by hand, which is Gen 6 shinies are markedly better than the gens before it.

I realized going through the picker I actually don't like the vast majority of shinies, and some of them I only like the pre evolution versions. The best ones are simple color switches that aren't to some horrible off green/pink/orange.
