Download all the past-gen games on an emulator, and try to complete the dexes on all of them.

You can download an emulator on your computer. Since pokemon mainline titles usually don't take up much space (most pokemon games up until the 3DS are entirely 2D pixels), they should run just fine, even if your computer is basically a toaster.

From my understanding of US law, yes, you can sue the hell out of them for that. If it says it's under surveillance but it isn't, then they are not doing their part to ensure security of the premises, especially if said security is pretend (they often use dummy CCTV cameras and such because it's far cheaper than having real things).

Now, whether or not it's worth it is a whole other story.

Being a Magic: The Gathering player, I've had to deal with countless situations of bags getting snatched, and people losing $1000+ decks at major events. The tl;dr is: don't lose physical contact with your bag at any time for any reason. Don't get up to go to the bathroom without it, don't have someone keep an eye on it for a moment, and to top the list, don't leave it unattended, period. Especially if you're storing something inside of it that you do not want to risk losing.

The main reason I have a N3DS nonXL is because it's about as big as my cell-phone, so I keep it in a cargo pocket. At the end of the day, this is essentially a $200-300 laptop, so don't leave it laying around. You wouldn't leave your $600 phone laying around, so why this? Plus you can grind them pedometer steps far better in your pocket. :^)

It sucks that you've got a lesson-learned first hand like this, but, in a way, you were asking for it. You left a few hundred dollar bills lying unsecured in the open, and someone picked them up.
