The amazon trio were three animals: A tiger, tropical fish and a hawk turned into human forms: Tigers Eye, Fish Eye and Hawks Eye
Three new starters quite resemble them. A fire tiger, a little sea lion that turns into siren which hair look almost exactly like FishEye's. HawkEye and Rowlett doesnt resemble each other but the whole feather theme in Rowletts final evo looks a lot like HawksEye feather effects
Also they're from Sailor Moon and the new starters are in Pokemon Moon (and Sun). Amazon trio are part of a circus, just like Poplio and also in each group the water one is the most feminine: FishEye is a guy who wears female clothes and targets males. Also both groups are tied to the tropics: Amazon trio and starters in tropical Alola

Well, the staff's love for old anime is fairly well known so it's possible.
Kind of like how the Muskedeer Trio + Keldeo had their designs be heavily inspired by an old anime adaptation of Three Musketeers down to Keldeo's mane resembling Dartagnan's hat.

Recently watched that season, that didn't happen. Though there was one episode where both Tiger's Eye and Hawk's Eye were charmed by Fish Eye's looks after putting on make-up. (pic related)

Not everything but it does happen sometimes. Alola starters and Amazon trio just seem a bit to much similar for just a coincidence
