Probably not in particular, Masuda only really does the starts of generations and that's really why they're lacking, because they have to set up so much more basics than third versions or sequels do so they don't have as much time for fine polish or proper game balancing

If we want to assume Masuda wasn't giving Ohmori the helicopter parent treatment as interviews heavily imply, I felt ORAS was a huge improvement in its atmosphere and characterization, but I attribute that more to the new head scenario writer, Nukita

Compared to the hollowness and shallowness of Kalos, Alola feels alive. Whereas Kalos was France merely on a superficial level, the culture, the Pokemon, the places of Alola all have a depth and coherence to them that Kalos just didn't have. This is probably Ohmori's greatest accomplishment in S/M to date - making the world of the games a place you actually want to explore and discover again, rather than just simply a setting, or a backdrop. I really hope that that exploration aspect is there and that it's not completely linear. Alola is honestly one of my favorite regions already.

Imagine Inouit Mythology and Culture for an Alaska region, or a GrecoRoman overload in a mediterranean region, or a Southeast Asia region rich with their history and culture, exploring Pomemon Bhuddist temples deep in the lush jungles of Tailand or Vietnam. Pokemon always had scratched the surface of the realw rpld equovalent the region was based on, but the mythology and pverall feel of the region was disconnected from that real world take, so there was always a feel of disbelief. Here though? Motherfucking Hawaii Region, balls deep in Maori Culture, mythlogy and craftwork. World Building is on a whole different level this gen its not funny.

There's more members than just the director at work. The same head scenario writer did everything from GS to XY, though RB and FRLG was Tajiri, and ORAS had a new one who was also an assistant writer on XY. I know he worked on the story in the game Infinite Space and did some game design for the TCG back in the early days, and I've heard he wrote for hentai of some sort on /vp/ but couldn't find a solid source for that.
