Sure, the vast majority of those won't actually buy a real pokemom game but I've seeing quite a lot of people who got back in the pokemon craze thanks to Go and who will buy the new game. Even though their last real game was gen 2. I mean I've even seen people who started buying pokemon cards again after 15 years or so.

In favor of sequels/updates. Go has no direct competition and it just lost a third of its install base. Completely understandable given that the novelty of catching the same few pokemon wears off pretty quickly, especially when there's nothing else to do with them. No trading with friends, no real battling, nothing of any real substance. It's a game sold entirely on a gimmick that's wearing thin and people have pretty much gotten over it.

I try very difficult to not hate on things just because they're new, so I hope I don't come off as "hurrrrr they stoopit cuz they r new", but I have a big problem with how much they change, seemingly for no reason.

And I'm not talking about scene by scene type stuff. Some of the improvements are fucking great, the fight with Ramiel is fucking top notch, and even if they changed the iconic Unit 01 eating scene, the one they replaced it with was still cool.

But it's just stuff like Mari and the cat form evas and shit that just seem to strongly contradict the insane intricacy of the original series so much. I'll wait till the last one to really pass judgement, but man I was not liking 3.0. Also I fucking hate Mari.

I work at Gamestop, and while it's anecdotal, Pokemon SM pre-order sales are projected to be a significant deal larger than before, likely the largest of the year in my area due to Go. Pokemon games have also been sold out like crazy.

Go's popularity is sinking like shit due to Niantics garbage bullshit, but it still put the name back in the public conscious, and cemented itself as something cool to like.
